It could have gotten its own small segment but honestly the most common object right now is wall where it does about 570/800 HP, I think it just ends up not being too helpful right now (though I cool quality) Prolly supports the idea of it being meant for comp play more though.

Honestly if Splatoon 4 is slower paced I can see it. Especially if it gets given more powerful supportive kits. What comes to mind to me is N-Zap, in Splatoon 1 it got kits that didn’t play to its supportive stats, and come Splatoon 2 they made it boring-I mean they gave it supportive focused kits

when big swig dropped my first thoughts were "damn. this kinda sucks. alright time to main it." the one upside to the horizontal flick is that you have Dynamo-level ink suppression coming in at a much higher frequency, which is really just a day ruiner for anyone that feels like pressing ZL in your general vicinity. Express's combo kit is genuinely pretty sweet but using marker for combos is WAY too hard, really wish they could up the hitbox or even add a slight aim assist so it's more consistent

Swig express main here! The weapon is certainly odd but that’s what makes it so fun! I was able to push past the hard to use vertical flick and sub. The weapon is flexible and if my team needs paint I’ll paint but if we don’t I’ll go up and try to help fight which the vertical flick is very good at. I love the range of angle shooter being able to pressure the back lines and mark opponents trying to flank or get in. Ink storm is the cherry on top of this strange weapon allowing you to make the enemies move or help your teammates get in. The weapon just has everything I personally want in a weapon and is just super fun once you get past the learning curve. I love making the enemies move and supporting my team with scans with marker and paint. I also want to fight and the vertical flick and marker let me help my team by fighting alongside them! And can’t forget it’s amazing object damage to destroy the rainmaker shield very quickly, and just destroy anything quickly! I mained it since it came out last sizzle season and was the first weapon I 5 starred with my second being octobrush nouveau and I even have the gold ink storm badge! Very fun weapon 10/10 for me. Sorry for the long comment but I just want to express (pun intended) my love for this very strange weapon.

Swig is my go-to tricolor weapon, its srs underrated, its kit perfectly fits into the playstyles of being the attacking or defending team, as well as easily being able to claim turf in the last few seconds. Vac is one of the strongest tri-color specials when on attacking and wall helps keep one of the teams from killing you/stalling them while you focus on the other team while on defending. Its kit actually works so fluidly in tri-color, you gotta try it!

I've been forcing myself to use Big Swig Express for the past few months to get it to 5 star, and i can tell you that the default Big Swig was aiming for a supportive role. However, Big Swig Express seems to be going for an area denial role, having a horizontal that has a radius that is similar to dynamo but at the cost of less damage, it more encourages players to try to take you from different angles if they want to get close to you while punishing them with the high damage of the vertical flick if your paying attention to your flanks. Pairing it with the combos and information of the Angle Shooter, and the massive aggressive potential of the Ink Storm, i've often found myself going in and taking out enemies with the Ink Storm horizontal flick combo, especially after the buff that increased the horizontal's minimum damage to 40 to match verticals minimum damage. The weapon is in no way competitively viable, but is extremely fun to play casually.

This Roller is so funny because you can kinda obviously see what they were trying to do. Just making it the S1 Dynamo without the kill power. rant for the giggles about the concept of "support" in this game but a lot of the new weapons this game dropped (mainly the 2.0 ones) were obviously designed to be supportive weapons, Nova/Swig and Pencil all have the Paint > Kill Power idea but most of them didn't land because supportive roles in this game aren't (ironically) "supported" in the game enough. there's not enough gimmicks to go around when the main cast of weapons and modes has always been designed around "kills > paint" besides zones (arguable). The supportive specials too were not good either, there was no point in using them when Offensive Specials were most useful (Tacticooler escaped that land only because of its S1 QR, it STILL pushes the idea of Offense > Defensive). To make supportive concepts like this work, there needs to be more ideas/gimmicks that support the playstyle of support rather than just making them "Offense 2!".

Swig does kind of function as a combo roller (one of each swing) and traps players pretty well with horizontals when it has a height advantage, but the subs and specials are just so, so bad for it. If there was a swig with like fizzy + crab, all those long-range chip hits could easily string together, and if you take damage going in you really can't dodge the horizontal finishing you off.

I think the difference is that a good weapon with options can do a good number of things well, but a “mismatched weapon” has tools that each do different things only to a certain extent. So it can’t do much of anything that well.

A bad weapon also mostly is just worse at being a swiss army knife than a good weapon. And in a fighting-heavy meta Swig just can't thrive because it's a decent chip damage supplier but can't defend itself in direct engagements. That weakness is a viability killer for any weapon

Here's something bizarre I wonder if many people even noticed about swig: It's horizontal and vertical swing speeds are a tiny bit faster than Splat roller. Like, 3 whole frames faster for horizontals and 6 frames for verticals. Wonder if swig getting a more pronounced swing speed would help it.

The big swing roller is ideal for turf wars. It’s wide ink rolling and faster rolling speeds makes it great for inking turf, especially your base. Its combat abilities of course are lacking. I find the flingza roller to be the best combat roller. Rollers are ideal for turf wars and tower control. Especially when defending the tower

I really enjoy playing with both, going supportive playing far from the battle helping gaining terrain, it can give some trouble for the opponent if you're on a higher place flinging horizontaly, and I agree the splash wall is kinda pointless, when I play with this kit I try to stick with someone in the team and use it to help them

Big swig with marker is like carbon with burst bomb if it did drugs. It has a weird, precise 70+40 damage combo that's much harder but SO satisfying to land. Other uses for big swig: run so much ink saver sub that you can throw three markers, then bully eliters with the one non-special weapon that can outrange them.

In other words: I think by not having a defined kit, this weapon has more freedom than a lot of other weapons. At the same time, this freedom is mostly limited to casual play. This isn't a bad thing, I just don't think all weapons are designed to be viable at the top level and I think that's a very Nintendo thing to do.

I think the biggest thing this roller has is that it can roll for 30 seconds straight off a full tank. Not useful but hey it's something. Maybe if we get a turf war mode where you need to die to refill ink it's pure output could overwhelm everything else, beyond that I got no ideas where it could help.

This is crazy because I was just thinking about Big Swig’s design the other day, and I honestly feel like it could be a pretty powerful weapon, maybe even competitively viable, if it just had a fitting kit and a few key buffs. See, I disagree that Big Swig’s vertical flick falls into a more aggressive playstyle. I think it’s supportive, just like the horizontal flick, but whereas the horizontal flick is made for outputting tons of paint, the vertical flick is made for dishing out quick chip damage from a distance to combo with teammates. It’s honestly kind of similar to what makes Snipewriter good, or the way that Burst Bomb is often used with Sub Power Up. The problem with Big Swig is that it doesn’t do enough damage to combo well with other weapons, the minimum damage on the vertical swing being 40. I think main thing this weapon needs is some buffs to its vertical flick to help it fill that Snipewriter-style, long range chip damage niche. It definitely needs more damage so it can combo better. At least 50 damage, which would make it a guaranteed 2 shot, but I think that’s fair given how thin the vertical flick is. Then it either needs more range, so it can participate in more fights from farther away, or faster shot velocity, to make it easier to actually hit the vertical flick. Maybe a little bit of both. As for the kits, I think the main things Big Swig needs from a sub weapon is some damage, to help it fight and defend itself, and location, to avoid getting snuck up on. I think Ink Mines or Torpedo could both work for this. As for the special, we have to be careful what we give it, because it will get a lot of them. I think the current special of Ink Storm works pretty well since it fits the supportive playstyle, but it has a cooldown so you can’t just spam it. On the other hand, I think Inkjet could work for a more aggressive special, if it was high points for special. It takes skill to use, so you can’t spam them and win. It would also be the only Roller with Inkjet right now. I think I would give the Ink Mines to the Inkjet kit, mainly because the Inkstorm kit would be a bit too passive with Ink Mines.

I love how they randomly gave this thing insane object damage in a patch when it didnt have it before hand, basically showing how not even the devs know what to do with this weapon anymore. I see this with some of the new s3 weapons especially recycled brella but atleast that weapon is fixable (kinda) but idk what can be done to this weapon without it being something completely different.

Imo the only thing Big Swig really needs is a thicker hitbox for the vertical flick. As it is now, you can basically have the model of the roller touch the opponent and still miss. That won't suddenly make it good, but the current disparity between the visuals and the actual hitbox is big enough to be really annoying.

The express kit is the good one tbh. And a lot of people underestimate the weapon, so if you know what you're doing, you can easily get the most amount of kills and turf. Plus it's horizontal has a lot of range allowing you to stand back out of fire

Despite it all, I still love and use the Big Swig Rollers. There's just an inherit fun to just swinging a massive, quick hitbox that tends to hit your opponents, even if it is usually for 40 damage. Using the Big Swig well is certainly a delicate balance of wanting to be support on helping your teammates out for chip damage, and when to try and go offensive with the vertical flick. I know I tend to play a very more defensive/support play style, until the time comes for going aggro for a push, or with ink vac/rain. I do enjoy the supreme object damage it has, especially with object shredder. I unironically put that on, especially for the ink vac build if I want to play rainmaker with it. Breaking and splatting a booyah bomb player with the Big Swig all by yourself is one of the most satisfying things you can do with the weapon. I hope this weapon gets a better kit someday, whether it be from a third kit or from the next game... They certainly seem to just not know how to tune it better to be more viable but not overpowered. Ah well, I'll keep on using the Big Swig Rollers regardless, and I'm glad I get to be the so called "Exhausted Big Swig Roller User" on my splashtag title, because... Yeah, it can be exhausting at times.

Big Swig Express was one of those weapons I wanted to get good at because it seemed like a painting beast for zones but I just couldn't figure out how to effectively use it so I abandoned it

Not sure if it's intentional vanilla swing does come off as a different take of corocoro splat roller while express is a mix of carbon's splat 2 kits.

Big Swig just needs a wider vertical flick (that finaly match the arrows) and a good kit to be good. We need a Soda Big Swig with fizzy cooler, it's synergistic BOTH thematicaly AND gameplay-wise.

This is a very interesting weapon with the kits. The is actually my favorite roller to use. Plus I know it’s a not a good idea but I like to treat it like the Carbon deco i don’t know why. But overall this roller is just fun using in my opinion
