S55 F80 F82 F8x Fuel Injector Removal - The Quick and Easy Way (No Specialty Tools Required)

Tonight I'm working on the removal and future replacement of my 2015 M3 fuel injectors due to a cylinder one misfire. since there are not a ton of videos out there for the S55 with this task and I was able to shorten some of the steps I figured I would make a short video to hopefully help another DIY mechanic.

Thanks very much for this! Ive had misfires on cyclinder 6 which has then threw up codes for cylinders 1 and 3. I've changed all spark plugs and coil packs and still have the issue. So by process of elimination I can only put it down to the injectors now!

Yup definitely in the same boat..I replaced all coils all spark plugs and even did just-pipe..still misfiring and I’m sure it’s injectors

Nope, didn't need to program them. Just did a hard system reset by disconnecting the battery overnight and letting it relearn the fuel mapping.

How did you reinstall without a tool? Factory shows using a torque wrench on the installation/removal tool to properly seat them.

The bracket that goes between 2 injectors can be used to seat the injectors back into the rail. The correct way to do it is to torque the bolts with a torque wrench.

Do you recall which codes you threw? I just randomly had a CEL at startup without any weird misfiring symptoms or anything, didn't even throw my F80 in limp mode or send a drivetrain malfunction. But checked the codes and have 140010, 140510, 140610, 140410, 140002, 140502, 140602, and 140402... basically misfires recognized for cyl 5, 6, and 4, and then misfires after startup, and cyl 5, 6, and 4. To me it seems strange that there would be no obvious misfiring, fuel smells, or limp mode, on top of it conveniently being only one cylinder bank. I changed the spark plugs and coils as preventative maintenance since they're cheap about 5k miles ago, so I don't have much reason to suspect anything other than the injectors. Were your prior symptoms anything similar to that? I figure I may end up replacing all 6 of mine too soon, so I'm glad to find your video showing that you got them out without removing the charge pipes and intake plumbing! I think that was the majority of where my time was spent when the plugs and coils were changed. Great video, subbed to see more as well.

Thanks! I had similar codes, but only for 1 cylinder really. Did you use good OEM/Boche coils? Also, bimmerlink was a great app that helped me diagnose the codes as well. I'd grab it if you don't have it yet.

I just installed some intakes and started getting codes, CYL 1&6. Car ran like a beauty for the 3 weeks beforehand, I haven't replaced the sparks or coils yet. Based of my research I might just shoot for injectors right off the bat and work my way back towards sparks and coils.

Hey currently having an issue with my 16 M4 6MT was driving normally and the car started bogging and smoking then i started to smell a lot of fuel. Was this the same issue for you?

Mine went into limp mode and threw fuel system related codes. It's probably the same, but could also be something different like a bad coil.

Mine was pouring oil out of the exhaust as well fyi

@@TougeTourGuide yeah changed them out myself about a week ago they were pretty bad. After the change though I had to change oil as well because there was a good amount of fuel mixed in. After the oil change its driving great. Took the car on a 400 mile trip and no hiccups or issues! Thank you for the insight though I do appreciate it!

Hi, im having misfire, rough idle, and heavy fuel smell, lots of unburn fuel smell. Have you had those symptoms too? I was thinking it could be injectors.

That's what happened for me. I actually had raw fuel coming out of the tailpipe also.

I’m about to do this next week, i let my car sit on e85 for a week and a half. I’m getting multiple misfires, on 1,3,5. Already replaced coils, and plugs, and plugs were fouled with fuel. So injectors are next. You didn’t need to remove the IC? I hate having to take it out
