Jill, I’m cooking my way through your cookbook. Thank you for this cookbook. I’ve been hunting for a cookbook that’s practical, uses normal ingredients (organic or not), and is healthy yet tasty. I’ve yet to make a sourdough starter, but even without that, your cookbook has been so helpful. I like to keep my cookbooks clean, yet when I feel that bit of flour dried onto the page or a roast? drip on the corner, I KNOW that this book is well loved. It makes me happy. So thanks a heap!

I honestly did not even get a notification since there had not been a video posted for a long time. I miss seeing your vlogs and was hoping to see content of where you're converting the restaurant you purchased in Chugwater. I wasn't sure where to hear the podcasts for some reason. I'm much better at seeing the videos. But, now that I know, I'll check out more of the podcasts when I have a spare moment. It's good to see you Jill.

I’m always looking for ways to use up my eggs. We have eggs all year long. The trick is to have first-time layers every winter. Every spring I hatch or buy chicks to ensure we will have eggs throughout winter.

There are people who buy their eggs at the store, bring them home, put them in a bowl on the counter in the kitchen, and there they sit until they are used. No refrigeration. Too much fear is perpetrated into our society nowadays. Tired of all this fear.

Funny on store bought eggs, in Ontario Canada we had an egg company (a big one) got caught selling 2 years old eggs and was common practice to sell few months old eggs. Not sure now but I refuse to buy them. If we run out of our own I get local

How do I stop a hen from eating the egg? One of mine just started doing that.
@DWoods27272 жыл бұрын
Through the years, if I get one like that I get rid of that chicken. It seems the best option. I've tried everything people told me. Hope that helps.

I had a bunch of ameraucana pullets that started laying in a mobile coop and eating the eggs. I didn't know they were eating them at first, just wondered why they had stopped laying. Then I reached in to gather the ones I saw and they pecked at them and the shells were fragile. After three days of free choice oyster shell, they stopped eating them. I think they were breaking the shell with a toenail and just eating what shiny contents were suddenly there. You can try a rollaway nest setup, try to isolate the one egg eater, add protein to their feed, and minerals for shell integrity. Blow an egg and fill with yellow prepared mustard or turmeric paste and place in the nest as training deterrent. Try adding ceramic eggs to the nests. (I've found rodent tooth marks in my ceramic eggs!)
