I've always wanted to make a high-powered flashlight. In this design, the light source is a 30W LED, powered by 3 li-ion cells. / mn.projects / maciej-nowak-962547184

Thanks for such positive comments! Answering the questions: The battery lasts about 45-50 minutes at 100%, and about 2 hours at 50% (probably the electronics have higher efficiency with less current). The charging time is about 8 hours (the controller limits the charging current to not overload the USB charger). As for the thermal protection, the controller has a negative temperature coefficient (the current is reduced as the temperature rises). However, it was not needed, the housing is large enough to cool the LEDs without any problems. I think I could even apply more power
@hibahprice68873 жыл бұрын
Li ion batteries can be easily charged with a current of 0.5c. And this is for any capacity 2 hours. It is enough to install a 5.5 or 5.2 connector there and charge it with a charger from a laptop, or any other 12-13v .. If the controller limits the current, then it is better to replace it, since there are a lot of them on aliexpress. I also wanted to make a powerful flashlight, but I ran into a problem in finding an LED, many well-known brands of flashlights have small but powerful diodes, and large and low-efficiency assemblies are on sale .. I wanted to do something like yours, but with an adjustable focus and lens, with a power of about 50w on the assembly 3s 5200mAh from a quadcopter, they give a high current and quickly charge, and with such a size of the case, 50w will cool quietly .. And what would certainly be possible to make the cooling fins of an even larger area, taking a cutter 1mm thick and making grooves 1mm apart ..

From full charge how long does the battery last at half power and at full power?
@JPEight3 жыл бұрын
Nominal voltage for a 3 cell lithium battery is 11.1v. To produce 30w of power takes 2.7 amps at that voltage. The cells he used were 3500mA/h, which if 100% efficient would give 1h17min, but realistically it'll be more like 1h due to wasted power in both the driver and step up converter. Lithium cells last a lot longer if you don't fully discharge so limiting it to 45min would be best. I think he should have doubled the number of cells, and instead of 50% have low power be more like 10-20% as it's still way brighter than you need for most situations. Still a great build though.

That's a beauty. Made from almost scratch from the barest parts, and so solid too. Loved the use of screws to fasten the parts, that's gotta be one solid package. I get that it's not a commercial product, only a toy made for fun, but if only it had any waterproofing and like a 5 or 10% mode, I'd want one of those. 🤩

Beautiful design and really nice build quality! I love the design. Nothing wrong with good quality cob leds..... but if you do a bit of research and poke around ......look at some of the Cree XHP LEDs… Like the ones used in the convoy L6 and M3… I think you’ll be amazed at what you could do if you grouped a few of those together in a light like this. Wonderful craftsmanship! Keep it up!

awesome craftsmanship, but I'm disappointed about the battery. I would use at least 6 cells, 9 cells or even 12 cells. Also I would eliminate the voltage booster because it consumes power. You can find led chips in almost any voltage you want.
