I believe the reporting done by the Newsroom Africa reporters is weak to say the least! This lady did not even ask these store owners if they have the right papers to be in the country legally, that's number 1. secondly, when a business operates in SA, the building/house that they are operating out of must be zoned for business operations and not residential purposes. They will not get the zoning papers that are required because the houses that they are selling out of are zoned for residential purposes and not for running a business/spaza shop. Only the spaza/businesses that are operating out of the correctly zoned buildings/houses will remain. Mabahambe!!!!

It certainly depends on the scale of the business. How do you expect people who are almost "street vendors" to understand that process. They should probably acquire the services of some lawyers; but with the very slim margins and risks in that space, it is doubtful they'll even consider that.

This is so sad and pathetic. This sector is taken over by these people, and so far I haven't heard a single one who is registered. They have been doing this for years. If they don't have building plans, these places should be closed. Are they paying VAT and Income Tax? Can you imagine how much state revenue is lost? Because many are illegal they don't even have bank accounts. That goes for their wholesaling and manufacturing businesses as well. No VAT no Income Tax, meanwhile the government is claiming they don't have money. A Banana Republic, a lawless state indeed.
@honordiamond25487 күн бұрын
@RazzMatazz -g8o It is because they were told not to pay any of those taxes by our own very stupid government. They said refugees cannot pay VAT or Income tax because they were here trying to make a living from their beleaguered countries. That is why we are in this mess. And we are not going to allow them to re-open those spaza shops and kill our kids once again!
