I owned a 2004 9-3 Saab Aero, such a shame the brand went under. This was one of the best engineered cars I’ve ever owned. It looked good and had a creamy smooth 2.0L turbo engine with real mid-range grunt. I loved it’s quirkiness and it felt safe taking the kids in this excellent car. I tip my hat to Saab engineers as they put their hearts into those cars and never compromised on safety. R.I.P Saab 👍🏻

I love my 2002 9-5 Aero sooo much that I still own it! I bought it in 2004 with 82k miles on it. She now has 303,000miles on it and still running good! No major repairs just routine things. Even though it's 20 years old it's still a stylish car! ♥

I have a 2000 9-5 Aero Manual Trans with 289,000 miles on it. Just put a new transmission in it due to a small leak developing and it eventually ran out of fluid and burned up gears 2 through 5. It still had the factory clutch in it that lasted all those miles.. the engine still runs great. Only thing im fighting now is corrosion and cosmetic issues.. My favorite car I've ever had. It cost me 4k to put a new trans, clutch, 2 new axles, all new exhaust and several other various parts. more than the car is worth according to KBB.. but only people that own SAABs will understand why we put more money than the vehicle is worth to keep them going. Just a joy to drive and own. Glad to hear others such as yourself appreciate and love them as I do! Cheers and may your Aero run forever!

Also, SAAB co-designed the Ecotec used, and the engines used were heavily customized, so saying it's basically an Opel isn't totally fair to the 9-3 - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Ecotec_engine
@MGalaxy
@MGalaxy 2 жыл бұрын
@@thackerybrown2860 nor saying it was a failure on the market. I would argue the brand strive so long only thanks to that one model which was 9-3 II. Apart from crap like 9-2x and 9-7x they only had (for the most part) outdated 9-5 which was based on construction from 1997 and sold up to 2009 whereas other manufacturers at the time offered proper SUVs, hatchbacks and more alternatives. Surviving so long while offering basically only one small sedan was truly surprising in itself in my opinion. I think the 9-3 SportSedan (especially pre-lift) was one of the best cars Saab ever made... and from what I've read, many journalists, actually I would argue most of them, really praised the car as a quite solid and valuable alternative to the competition.

I am on my 4th SAAB. Started with a 99 that was colored, as my wife described as, monkeyshit yellow, (painted silver grey later), then a 900, followed by a 900 Turbo....I recently found a 1999 Saab 9-5 with only 51,000 km on it- couldn't resist. The best handling car in the snow, period, not that we get huge amounts of snow in Vancouver....except for the last three days. The 900 turbo stands out as the best driver to me...plus the trunk area was 7 feet long.and you could dial up the turbo at over 140km/hr. The faster, the better the handling and feel.

I have owned and enjoyed 4 SAABs so far, starting with a 1999 '9000', to a 2006 '9-3' 2.0t Vector and changed it to magnificent 2007 '9-3' 2.8t Aero. Now I own the ultimate SAAB (in my humble opinion)...the 2008 '9-3' Aero XWD in South Africa. I'm planning to emigrate to the UK later this year and I intend to get us yet another 9-3 XWD. I salute those Swedish car engineers. I am sad that production stopped over a decade and a half ago but I hope that SAAB enthusiasts will keep SAAB cars rolling for a long time to come. 🚗

I owned 15 Saab 900. From 126HP to 200HP. From normal 900's to real Aero turbo-s' as estate-coupes' or convertibles' (MY:90-93). One of the turbo-s' convertibles had been a british car, which I rebuilt to a left handed car by myself, to drive it on German streets. I installed a Swedish Dynamics box in the car with 200HP, the power was impressive. I just sold it months ago. Another 900 convertible have had a broken engine, and is now a fully electic Saab 900, build by a electric engineer from Germany. He bought that car from me and put his knowledge on it to make a Saab 900 electric convertible. He was very sucessful. You can see videos on youtube. Another 900 turbo convertible has been a original Heuschmid-edition with 200HP. This car was sold to Norway from the guy who bought it from me. I wasn't satisfied, because of his automatic-transmission and very high consumption of patrol. After my 900-time I bought 2 Saab 9-5 station wagon. One with 230HP and an Aero with 250HP. I'am very impressed about, how fast that cars are. My next Saab buys will be a Saab 900 again as a Saab 900 turbo-s convertible and a Saab 9-5 NG with 2.8 bi-turbo. I love that brand and what Saab always stands for. They are safe and fast underdogs out there.

Great video! I've owned a couple of 900s and 9-3s, as well as a 9-2x. It's terrible what GM did to Saab, but all of the cars (even the 9-2x) were entertaining, fun to drive and (mostly) reliable. I was really happy to pick up a mint condition '88 900 Turbo convertible a few years back, and I still have it, along with a 2008 9-3 Turbo. I wish other car companies had the originality, design and safety of Saab. They were incredibly unique.

The V4 didn't hit untill the '64 model, they had to lengthen the nose to fit it. So they are distinctly different from the ones pictured. Also, they didn't make their own engine to replace the Triumph one, they improved it's design.

I drove a Saab 96 V4 for several years. It was bought new by my uncle on Anglesey, he passed it on to my dad who passed it to me. I loved the free-wheel and column gear shift. It stood out in a crowd and was easy to work on. The Ford V4 engine meant that parts were easy to obtain. I even had the engine out once to change the clutch. A great car, with personality, style and a rally pedigree too!

Sadly a mutual customer passed and his widow gifted his 900 turbo vert to our mechanic. This man, whom I never met, bought the car new in Vermont and drove her just 99, 520 miles over 35 years. Last week for the princely sum of $1000, this Talladega red beauty became my first convertible, and second ever Saab. The first one being a 9000CD that the same said mechanic sold us for $400. Looking forward to a long a run!

I've owned 6 Saabs, still have 4 including a Viggen convertible. Breaks my heart how difficult it is to buy parts these days, especially body panels. All my cars before my first Saab were basically utility vehicles, but Saabs were my first love.

I'm on my 5th or 6th Saab, now.....memory recalibrated. Started with a 99 (factory monkey-shit yellow), a 900 x2, a 900 Turbo (wow), a 9000..... another one I forget and now drive a 9-5, with less than 60,000 KM on it. There is something about these cars that pleases the former motorcycle driver in me that is hard to describe. The 900 turbo was probably the best example of holy shit handling, cornering, acceleration and back comfort on long road trips. Plus I could go to the lumberyard and fill the car with drywall sheets and 8 foot 2x 4's. A fast Swedish pickup truck at times.

I rode with a friend of the Springfield, IL SAAB dealer in one with a V4 engine and a column mounted four-speed transmission sometime in the mid sixties. I don't remember where we were going, but I do remember being both fascinated by the column four-speed shifter and put off by WHY?

I worked for SAAB's retail finance function - across Vauxhall as well - and was in the middle of the run down and closure. So very sad - will always have a very soft spot for these cars.

When GM took it on, they wanted Saab to follow their line, by merely reworking Vauxhall cars, i.e. doing nothing more than just changing the body and the badges, keeping it affordable, but Saab didn't do so and went their own way, not listening to reason from GM, and Saab thought just plainly reworking existing Vauxhall cars might alienate customers to Saab who would merely see it as a plain jane reworked Vauxhall Cavalier / Vectra. After a few more episodes of this, which were costing GM a lot of money, they just had enough of their ignorant Swedish company and threw Saab to the wind, but Spyker Cars BV in the Netherlands snapped it up last minute, but even this wasn't totally satisfactory, and it folded after a short period of failure.

Bought my Saab 9000cs 3 years ago . It's a '97 model . 25 years old .Best car I've ever owned for highway cruising . Mine's done 240000kms so there are various components that have a service life around that mileage . Paid $2k to buy it and have spent $6k over 3 years - engine mounts are expensive but a vital point of wear in older cars . Windscreen , Front end , shock absorbers and various bushes , starter motor , heater , radiator , hoses , etc , but all said and done , where can you get a luxury car that's built like a tank and got all the pleasant extras and gets 7ltres / 100km on the highway ( 40 MPG -UK)...for that money ? Did I mention that it goes like a smooth rocket !

I bought a 2001 9-3 Viggen convertible, mostly to check a box of cool vehicles to have owned. I got it home and took my wife for a ride and she just said "you're not planning on selling this right away, are you?" So, I still have it and will do some paint correction and clean it up more than it is. It is a fun car to drive!

I have owned two Saabs a 9.5 and a splendid 9.3 Aero V6 turbo and loved them both. I even got stopped by the Police one night while driving the Aero. One of the officers took a walk round the car and asked if he could get inside. He ended up driving it for a short time and as he got out he said he had always thought of getting one and mine had made up his mind. He was going to start looking for one. Such a shame when the company went bust but GM was not a good move. I often wonder why they were taken over by Audi or Volvo. At the time they had a lot of good ideas .
