If there is no direct drive between the engine and wheels what's the point in the turbo charger? Is it so it can spin the generator faster more quickly? I don't really understand why the engine would need the turbo if the engine was just to power a generator. I'm a mechanic of 14 years and I'm very new to hybrids.

You have to admit Elon Musk was correct about Henrik Fisker; Mr. Fisker was a talented designer at heart, not an engineer. The Karma kind of epitomizes this fact with it's outlandish exterior & funky interior design. However, the use of space for something that's 5400lbs is frankly a joke, as is the ergonomics. On the other hand, Musk is a very talented engineer. He makes rockets for a living before creating Tesla, and the simplicity & flawless working of the Model S reflects this nature: The looks are nowhere near Karma's supermodel design, but it's functional, use of space is excellent & does handle well for a 4700lb car. I don't think I need to say who was more successful in this field to drive my point home, do I?

Trades46 that's why tesla is running out of ways to finance their business, thus using reimbursable deposits from future owners to pay off loans since it's incredibly expensive to produce their cars. It's simply just a very difficult project to mass produce.

I saw one of these yesterday, it just happened to be this model and year. It is silent. I rolled down my windows when we were at a signal. They are pretty and the best part is that it's a sedan. You don't mention whether the suede is a micro fiber for easy cleaning. These pale colors will show every mark. Very smart looking vehicle.

I had a lot of fun driving a rental fisker karma, people were more curious than when I was driving a Gallardo or Ferrari 360. Lots of questions everywhere. It does look great in person. What's sad is the electric range before the engine kicks in. The best I managed was about 48 km. Loved the Star Wars sound.

I don't think they did ran the complete round of NTSA safety tests but the thing is built like a tank yet handles like a gazelle. Read some owners delighted how it helped them avoid accidents, and airbags worked for one lady in Texas.

It's like the Chevy volt. It is a full on electric with a petrol powered 4 cyl generator to allow for unlimited range. However drive it within the range and charge up every night and never burn gas. I have a volt, and I put 9 gallons of fule in it every 6 months. My daily drive to and from work every day is 100% electric. On the weekends I do alot of running around, and burn a tiny bit of gas, perhaps 1/4 to 1/2 gallon per week. On the weekend I usally charge 3 or 3 times during the day.

Sport Mode is when you engage the 4 cylinder engine that acts as a generator to allow you to continue to drive after the battery dwindles down in available power. With all electric cars you are subjected to the range of the battery only. This is not the case with the Fisker. The Fisker is an EVer (Electric Vehicle with Extended Range). We do not yet have the infrastructure in this country to support all electric cars yet so this technology is the next step. This car is amazing and worth it...
