Given the state of the SADF, I'm surprised to see this still flying in 2021.

Judging on its old shape this helicopter looks like it was made in 1993, sad to see there's no budget, money gone missing or corruption.
@Loneranger6702 жыл бұрын
Way before 1993. As paratroopers we were using them in Angola in 1986 already. They were originally French Pumas who later had their engines updated. I think they were manufactured in the late 60’s as the SAAF took delivery of 20 Pumas in 1971. Im also surprised to see them still flying.

the south african "oryx" helicopter. was south african copy of french "puma". helicopter.
@allanroyvid3 жыл бұрын
not a copy, its upgraded version of Aerospatiale Puma.
@rooiflitz3 жыл бұрын
The Oryx was a South African modified Puma with 65% native South African parts added, upgrading the platform into an all-around better helicopter.
@Jurflip23 жыл бұрын
It's really a hybrid Puma - Super Puma. It uses Makila engines, like early versions of the Super Puma, the tail has been lengthened compared to the Puma and a vertical fin added under the tail.
