SABA Freiburg Automatic 9 - High End Tube Radio from 1959

When I was stationed with the US Air Force in Bremerhaven Germany from 1979-81 my radar unit was located on the city landfill. We were allowed to take our trash out once a week without charge. One day my boss comes back with this same radio. It was in working order and all he had to do was some dust blow out and clean up inside and out. It was a wonderful radio that he took back to the states when he left. For a tabletop radio, I was so impressed by how many stations there were on it. It was big.

The Saba radios were clearly the best German radios you could buy at that time. I have several ones and I love them, including 2 Freiburg 14 (FM stereo). But these are extremely difficult to fix if ever you have an issue with the automatic search. And Saba was the first brand to have an automatic search feature (in the late 30's if I remember).

I also have started to review my SABA Freiburg 14 Stereo. On the Application "kleinanzeigen" there's actually a Modell 12 for only 220$ to buy. Save the motor while listening to the Radio with the "Motor aus" Button.

From 1959 ??? With MegaHertz (MHz) on the dial ? I'm 71 YO now but I clearly recall radios in the US when I was a kid were labeled in MegaCycles (Mc) ? Were things different in Europe then ?
