If you want to get your feet wet in Sabaton history I have some combination songs/history videos that are from the top shelf. And I hope you do check them out, those videos are extremely well made and entertaining, 15-20 minutes of mostly the history but also a short talk with the band about the song itself. "Attack of the dead men" is my second favourite combination. A great song and a truly bizarre story to go with it. "Ghost division" is also a great pair. A great song (obviously) and the story is also something extra. "Price of a mile" is my favourite, but definately not everyones... Probably my favourite song from them, but a warning should be made, you will not walk away with a smile from that one. And the history video is equally good (and disturbing..).

The "Bismarck" , and his sister ship "Tirpitz", were the 2 largest battleships ever built in Europe (250 meters long, 36 meters wide, and displacing more than 50.000 tones) and they were the pride of the kriegsmarine (Germany's military navy) during Ww2. The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but he was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1900 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churcil who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 6 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive maneuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed it. However, despite having all his guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at it) his armor was still mostly intact and the ship was still afloat. So the British launched another 4 torpedoes and he disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's excellent armor, and that Bismarck had been scuttled by his crew (although it should be noted that many historians believe that it would have eventually sunk due to the damage received). Of the 2200 men that served on it, only 114 survived. The old man seen in the video is the son of the last survivor, who died in 2018, 1 year before this song was released Nuff Said !!!! 🤘😎🤘.

Not really arguing your points. just want to point out due to the impact and slide down the seamount that is its final resting place not much below the armor belt still exists, so there is nothing existing of the lower hull to show torpedo hits.

Sabaton, out here giving teachers awesome tools to spark interest in historical facts and stories. A way to make their lessons memorable and fun. Tell every teacher you know! Honestly, the sentiment, "Kest We Forget" has been forgotten by our generations. So many songs about scoring sex, useless violence, petty relationships, and even about nothing at all are flooding our airwaves, while others are writing songs of substance like these guys.

Another outstanding reaction to another outstanding Sabaton take on history. The Brits did a movie in 1960 called"SINK THE BISMARCK". It's obviously outdated but it still captures the urgency the Brits had in sinking the Bismarck. During the early years of the war, England was dependent on ship convoys from America and Canada to keep her going. Bismarck was on her way to raise hell on those convoys before they could reach England. What the Sailors went through on both the HMS Hood and the Bismarck during the battle is unspeakable. My shipmates and I served on an American destroyer during the Viet Nam war. We fired over 20,000 rounds off the coast of North and South Viet Nam. When we were up North, we took fire almost every night from coastal defense gun sites. Most of the time the rounds hit the water 100 + yards away. Other times, they hit way to close. General Quarters - Battle Stations Alarm is NO SH.T. Your mouth gets dry and your butt gets tighter then a bulls ass in fly season. Fair Winds and Following Seas to all the Sailors out there. . . . . Tin Can Sailors Do It In Rough Seas

I love this music video! All the lyrics, background sounds, stuff on the walls, and video effects are 100% historically accurate. The ships of the Royal Navy which cornered and hammered her are all shown accurately - you can recognise their silhouettes. It still tickles me that the Fairey Swordfish - an open cockpit biplane - was the RNs standard carrier based torpedo bomber from 1934 to 1945! You will certainly want to check out the Yarnhub animated story videos with Sabaton, (Night Witches, No Bullets Fly etc.) I freaking love Sabaton for being both history nerds and metalheads.

For a ship that was fully operational for eight days - eight days though having been commissioned five years before it is a remarkable tale. The British were gunning for this flagship of the Kriegsmarine from day one.

A stand alone single released in 2019, this video was made in conjunction with Wargaming, the company that makes the World of Warships game. The name painted on the boat they went out on is Primo Victoria. That is the name of the first Sabaton album released, the title track is about D-Day at Normandy. The Capt of their boat is the son of the last survivor of the Bismarck.

Your comments, about how important history is, are right on. Too many times, history has been turned to social studies, turned to nothing (paraphrased from Ken Burns). Where I was raised, we learned lots of history, with teachers who loved to teach it. So, history has always been fascinating to kids with this background. Other kids got teachers who didn't want to teach history, and thus the kids didn't like it. Sabaton is opened portals with their songs, making it easy to learn parts of history, and creating interest in learning more. As for other songs, I'm sure you've been asked to react to "To Hell and Back," based on Audie Murphy's autobiography of his WW2 combat experiences, and subsequent Post Traumatic Stress (which I don't think is a disorder, but a natural and sane reaction to the horrors of war). Also, Wolfpack is a great song too!

Note that German WWII ships were addressed as HE as opposed to the other navy’s in the world (and still now as ships are addressed as she/female) The Marineführung (Navy Lead) made this decision just to be different and Sabaton perfectly picked it up.

I need to correct you, the Bismarck had a sister ship, the Tirpitz. The Tirpitz was build after and little upgrades, that made the ship heavier than the Bismarck. But it was not destroyed in battle, it was destroyed in a port and is now located in a Fjord at Tromsö in Norway. As far as I know, she lies there upside down until these days.

If your looking for history you can't go wrong with Sabaton history. They are very much the modern bards who are telling stories of the past. I'd also recommend The Fat Electrician for American history. His early stuff is mostly centered around American military and what the units are, his newer long form stuff going into lesser known figures. Highly recommend "The most gangster politician, Cassius Clay".

Now that you have a little Sabaton under your belt, you should react to the solo stuff from one of their guitarists, Tommy Johansson (the one who looks like he could be a teenager). I attended my first ever Sabaton concert last fall in Salt Lake City. During the show, Joakim (the lead singer) relinquished vocal duties to Tommy for (IIRC) a version of AC/DC's Highway to Hell. I had no idea that Tommy could sing, let alone sing so well. He has lots of videos on his YT channel, but one of the best (IMHO) is his recent rendition of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. It is a must see: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqTFiKekq8qNidk

I don’t think you’ve gotten to my favourite song yet that is called ‘no bullets fly’. It’s when a B-17 bomber was so badly shot up that when a extra German plane came up to shoot it down, and actually saw the damage. He decided to let it live and escorted out of the combat zone. it’s a gnarly story. However, I do have to recommend that you watch the yarnhub animated video first. Sabaton has a animated story video as well but inserts the song but cuts out some the the information. Hence why I recommend you watch yarnhub animation, video first, then follow up with the Sabaton animated story video. You basically get the same information, but the second includes the song. Also, you probably should follow up with a Sabaton history channel video as well

I get why you called it a N*zi battleship, but that's continuing the falsehood of equating WWII German military with N*zis. Was it "republican soldiers" who were fighting in Iraq (afterall, the republicans under George Bush sr. were in charge) - or was it US American soldiers, many of whom didn't like the political decisions? 😉

I would have been more comforatble if the song lionized the men of the Royal Navy who sent Bismark to the bottom rather than glorifying the flagship of the N*zi navy.
