If you're curious, Sabaton are in fact a historically based band. Mostly warfare, but they cover other topics occasionally too. Also Joakim (the vocalist) said in one show something along the lines of "we look like the village people in camo pants" so yeah, it's their thing.

Yes, Sabaton writes about war and epic battles and horrible chapters in our history, but they do it with class and respect for the history. They are world class story tellers and often tell stories of war from different perspectives. Being an American, I only learned about war from an American perspective so I was intrigued when I learned about WWII from the German perspective with the song Hearts of Iron and Ghost Division and Wehrmacht and Rise of Evil or from the Polish perspective with the songs Uprising, 40:1, and Prisoner 4859, or from the Russian perspective with songs like Stalingrad, Panzerkampf, and Attero Dominatus. I learned about Simo Haya and Lauri Allen Tourni who were Finnish hero’s and I never knew of the Winter War before I knew Sabaton. And I have only scratched the surface of their large catalog of historical events. This band has re-ignited my love of history. The songs and stories are all there for you to learn and expand your knowledge of history. Thank God for this band!
@davebcf12315 жыл бұрын
If your interest in history is re-ignited I'd really suggest checking out Dan Carlin. He does amazing series of basically books on tape, but better and more entertaining about different events or periods in history, called Hardcore History. He has a few available on his KZbin channel for free, including a great WWI series called Blueprint for Armageddon. The rest are available on his website or itunes.

All of Sabaton's songs are based on historical battles and war. A really good example would be "To Hell and Back," which features the story of Audie Murphy. Quote from Wiki: Audie Leon Murphy was one of the most decorated American combat soldiers of World War II. He received every military combat award for valor available from the U.S. Army, as well as French and Belgian awards for heroism." I highly recommend giving this a listen.

Welcome to Sabaton. I highly recommend their Carolus Rex album. Its all about the height of the Swedish Empire in the 16 and 1700s. All the songs on the album have Swedish versions and some have completely different lyrics compared to the English versions, such as A Lifetime of War (about the Thirty Years War) and Livstid I Krig (which is from a first person perspective of a Swedish soldier during the war). All of their songs are great.

Q*bert nearly all of their catalogue to date is military history themed in nature. The one exception is their album "Metalyzer." It has a fair bit of experimentation and a wide variety of subject matter. The number of tribute songs to heavy metal or specific bands, there's one song about the Nazgul from The Lord of the Rings, and there's one song about the death of Rock and roll to pop music disguised as the death of Norse mythology and religion at the hands of Christianity.

Sabaton are definitely all about history. Mostly military history, but they did do an entire album about Charles XII (Carolus Rex), though granted he was involved in a good deal of war. They've even started a KZbin channel where they talk about the history behind some of their songs. If graphic representations of warfare in a video are troublesome, you might want to skip their latest song, Fields of Verdun. That one gets pretty intense. Good song, but the video's definitely more grounded in the horrors of war than Bismarck was (which was pretty good). As for how this video was done, it's funny you mention video games, as they partnered with World of Warships, an online game where people fight in teams of warships (hence the name). The in-game graphics are nice, but this was a whole other level of CGI.

"The details are like tat of a video game" That's because they are. This was a collaboration with the company that made World of Warships, to commemorate the game's release on consoles. The band made this purely for the fans, as they had been asking them to make asking about the famous battleship for years. And given that they actually have a contact form on their website through which you can ask for songs about specific historical conflicts, I expect mote of these songs to come in the near future. Check out their latest video, Fields of Verdun,. as well. And look into the history behind the songs afterwards, to get an impression about how deep their research goes.

My best friend and I went over to this girls house. Her parents were gone for the weekend and she had invited 2 girls to come stay with her. So my girlfriend and 2 other girls. My best friend got together with one of the girls and the third girl invited her boyfriend over. He was a little older than us, 17 or 18....and he brought the cassette Lizzy Borden “Love You To Pieces.” We drank some beer and listened to the tape ALL night long. As a drummer I was captivated by the rhythms and sat playing air drums learning the songs. Yes, I had a pair of drumsticks with me like usual! The next day I bought the album and cassette and it was a regular practice source for me from then on...I still play American Metal and Psychopath occasionally to this day. While most of their song is a tribute to battle/individual in war their song call “life time of war” is very interesting too, since it have anti war message. Oh by the way that song English and Swedish version have different lyric so it is interesting to see both.

I loved the "that's like video game detail" line, being that a video game developer animated the battles.

Did you notice that the sole survivor of the Bismark has a compass / watch. The same one the captain of the boat who took Sabaton out to sea. Same soldier . Oddly enough , even though this was a video, I have heard rumors that the man who played the captain was related to one of the surviving seamen of the Bismark, and just recently passed away. You may have to research it for the exact details.

The song was done for World of Warships, but all of their songs are a history lesson. Love the Bismark! Try "Resist and Bite"
