I honestly love how these two albums tell two separate stories. At least to me. The English version is a Sabaton history lesson about Stormaktstiden. But studying Swedish and finding out that the Swedish album is like a whole different story is so fucking awesome. It's the pride, pain, and reckoning of native sons. It speaks to the humanity that gets left out of these stories and it's masterfully done. Jag är så glad att jag tog chansen att lära mig språket.

@@hencytjoe The English version makes Carolus sound like a zealot, but Lutheran faith united not only Swedes and Finns, but Estonians, Latvians, and Ingrians who were also part of the Swedish Empire. Here in Finland we might easily mock Sweden with quips like "Swedes always fight to the last Finn" but looking past our eastern border and seeing what has happened to Karelians (separate Finnic ethnic group, not to be conflated with "South-Eastern Finnish dialects"), Veps, and Ludians under Russian rule - we almost certainly got the better bargain in terms of foreign overlord.
