nope we still call her (cause Hellas is a she ofc) Ελλάς/ Ελλάδα. I'll explain why you call us Greece tho. So : The native name of the country in Modern Greek is Ελλάδα (About this . This song is about the Italian invasion of Greece during WWII, in October 1940. Against all odds, not only the Greek army managed to hold its positions, but they also made Italians fled, thus advancing deeper into Albania. Then, Hitler send German armies as reinforcements, leading to the ultimate surrender of Greece in April 1941.
