Not just Staufenberg, actually over 30 people were involved. The desert fox Erwin Rommel too, that why he has been forced to commit suicide by Hitler. Many try to degrade that by so called " the war went bad" or "it was not how we imagined it". Complete bullshit. The German had tried to kill Hitler in over 100 assassinations. Even before the war started. Poland still sticks to the illusion that they were "important" to any of the "winners" and had been "rescued". In truth nobody gave a shit, Stalin and Hitler planned to divide Poland among them after they freed the German and Russians from the dictatorship in Poland. Then the Churchill-Stalin-Pact happened and Stalin betrayed Hitler. Furthermore anyone who had listened to the Freedman speech in 1961 has a clue or three what the truth behind the World Wars are.

Honestly had Rommel been in charge of the entire army and Hitler allowing him to do the things he wanted it would have been a different war. D day wouldn't have been a disaster had Rommel been calling the shots. Hitler never liked Rommel even though Rommel was brilliant. Just like anywhere, Hitler listened to his guys and they weren't nessiccarilly the best millitary minds. Mostly Nazi party buddies he propelled to power. Most of the military guys like Rommel couldn't stand the Nazi politicians calling the shots. They were unrealistic and believed the false propoganda over actual knowledge and expertise. Had the real brains of the operation been in charge Germany would have been the empire it was capable of becoming. It was amazing industrial feats of genius being railroaded by nut jobs. Nazi Germany in a nutshell.

Yeah, then Rommel probaly would`ve taken over because many many other Generals and Soldiers wanted him as a new "Führer", but I think he would`ve surrendered to the allies or something like that.

@@taihou6427 Yeah, the Generals wanted to surrender, but possibly not unconditionally. They were also autocratic, they wouldn't have implemented a functional democracy in Germany, it'd have been a military regime.

I believe the war would've continued but with a lot more German wins before offering peace. Hitler got too greedy and committed overzealously. Slow advances are the German strong suit, because they own it all as they go, and hold ground incredibly well when not stretched too thin. That western campaign should have come much earlier and blitzkrieg should have been eastward towards the bolshis Rommel or von Staffenberg would have been smarter, but do not forget what they still believed in.

This is one really appropriate video for this song, especially the following lines: "Propaganda! The Reich Will Rise!" as A. Hitler emphasized that if you repeat the same statement enough, it effectively becomes a truth- not *the* truth, but *a* truth, as many people will believe it as if it were true. Added to that, where they say "An invasion is coming, but when will it start?" well, to them, the incoming *invasion* was both from the East (the Soviets- real and true monsters of the human variety), and also from the North and West, as in the Western Allies in the D-Day Invasion... and that was most certainly coming.

@kpharck The less of Germany taken by Soviets, the more German lives saved. Any responsible officer would know it. If Stauffenberg had a deal (ex. secretly agreed in advance with western allies) that killing Hitler would enable separatist surrender on the western front AND continue defending the eastern front, than I would concider him a responsible man. Otherwise, he was just weakening his country's army for nothing, at the cost of many civilians lost to soviet murderers.

As a member of Polish Home Army, he volunteered for this mission. Soldiers do risk their lives. Lucky are the ones that do it for protection of the people they love. Do not forget, that the concentration camps served the extermination of polish citizens irrespectively of their ethnicity at first - only since 1942 the Jews became majority of the victims.

Other than doing a lot of city walking to stumble upon the right place and time, nothing else was necessary. Please read some sources if you are genuinely interested in history. @JoeRingo118 The soldier kills another armed soldier only to avoid getting himself killed. The coward would kill after winning a fight. Civilian during war means mostly children, women and the elderly. Does that make no difference to you? Is killing the prisoners of war right? Is eradicating the entire villages or towns by massacring all their inhabitants too? To me those are crimes.
