There are several movies about the 101, but the easiest solution is probably to just watch Band of Brothers. Battleground and Screaming Eagles are both old movies about them, you can find them in The Longest Day and A Bridge Too Far. Private Ryan, in Saving Private Ryan, was in the 101.

The Siege of Bastone. Took place duering the battle of the bulge. A German offensive in the winter of 1944 into the Arden forest. The 101st and a few other army elements were actually caught out, their final orders were to hold the cross roads in Bastone. They fought surrounded for 3-4 weeks untill the 3rd Army, under General George S. Patton managed to breakthrough and provided them relief and fresh supplies.

They are singing about the bsttle of the bulge. The germans were counterattacking to stall the allied advance. They were trying to break thru the lines and gain control of a strategic crossroads at Bastogne. The 101st was sent out, unorepared, with few supplies and no winter gear to hold the crossroads at all costs. They were quicky surrounded by 3 german armies. To make matters worse a storm front moved in so the couldnt get anny supplys or reinforcements dropped. They were cutoff, greatly outnumbered, freezing, and low on ammo and supplies. The german commander demanded their surrender. The General replied with one word, "nuts". Despite all of this, theu mamaged to hold off the Germans from capturing the crossroads until the weather cleared and General Patton was able to break thru the German encirclment to relieve them. They got the knickname, the battered bastards of Bastogne.

And if you wanna know more about The men of Easy Company, I warmly recommend, We STand Alone Together, a documentary, where they talk to many of the men, behind the main characters, That is, the real Person, portrayed in the series

Ah yes. The laconic phrase. Nuts. The germans wanted the americans to surrender, but the reply they got was: "NUTS!"

Band Of Brothers, Episode 6 Bastogne and Episode 7 The Breaking Point, covers The battle Of The Bulge. and the Whole Series narrative centers on the experiences of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment assigned to the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. Oh, and when they were dropped into and around Bastogne, they knew they were going to be surrounded on all sides, it's part of their job.
