Lauri Törni was such a badass, captain in three different armies fighting against communism

The only person to reach the rank of an officer in 3 different armies in history. Although here in Finland, his rank was stripped when he was considered a traitor(funny though that Lauri wanted to participate in the Lapland War but his request was denied, and when he went to fight for the Germans he was considered a traitor, because Germans were considered as the enemy at that time, although Lauri never fought against the Finns)

Törni was a soldier at heart. Being a soldier was his calling so after WWII he found his way to U.S. army. RIP

Well he had to flee from Finland because he had no other choise exept for prison thats why he ended up joining US army tho xD. And that goes for many finnish guys that joined German army just so that they could fight against russia.

@@Jurkyification As his family had been evacuated from Karelia, Törni sought to rejoin them in Helsinki but was arrested by Valpo, the Finnish state police; after escaping, he was arrested a second time in April 1946, and tried for treason for having joined the German army. After a trial from October to November, he received a 6-year sentence in January 1947. Imprisoned at the Turku provincial prison, Törni escaped in June, but was recaptured and sent to the Riihimäki State Prison. Finnish President Juho Paasikivi granted him a pardon in December 1948.

@FuranDuron as an ancestor of commies I totally agree. Guy was committed and joined SS to learn and serve Finland. Not appreciated at a time but it is what it is. Finland was lucky to have such guys during Winter War.

Well, mainly it can be said, that he didn't like Soviet Union because his childhood home was attacked and occupied by Soviets. It just happened to be so, that at that time Soviet Union was communist country. Russia isn't anymore communist country, but situation hasn't changed what comes to attitude towards them. Ideological things are seldom enemies, but greedy people who want to steal from others are. Russia has been always bad neighbour, no matter if communist or capitalist system governing.

Larry Thorne (his American name) REALLY hated Russia. He fought against the Russians in the Finnish Army. Then after the Treaty of Moscow which ended the Continuation Wars between Finland and Russia, he joined the Waffen SS and volunteered for the Eastern Front. After WWII, he immigrated to the United States and joined the U.S. Army, going through OCS (Officer Candidate School) and qualifying for and joining the US Army's Green Berets. He reckoned that our next war was going to be against the Soviet Union, since the Cold War was in full effect. However, he got sent to Vietnam as part of MAC V SOG, where he was killed in action.

After WW2 he had to escape to Venezuela as Finland did not like that he joined the Germens. He immigrated to the US after he got pardon. He was not Rambo but John Wayens character in the movie "The green barets" is based on him.

@@UlsterHound77 well he was sentence to 6 year in prison and lost his finish military rank for joining the german army but your right that he did not have to flee as he was pardon by the president of Finland a few years later and left Finland through Sweden on his way to Venezuela. From Venezuela he did continua to the US.
