Sabatons version is especially iconic because of Joakims iconic voice. While the cover is good, it sounds like most other metal bands, it lacks what makes the original awesome. Joakim doesn't need to shout or growl and he doesn't need computer effects to sound amazing. On a concert I'd rather listen to Sabaton because of the unique power and style of Sabaton. I don't dislike the cover but it's just not enough :D

I want to add one suggestion where the cover might even topple the original from its throne. It would be... PINK FLOYD vs. NIGHTWISH - "High Hopes". Of course, we are reaching back into classic rock territory for the original song, I am not sure if the conditions require the contest to be between 2 Metal bands. This is in fact my favorite song from PINK FLOYD, so much so, that I even refrained from listening to the cover; but with everyone around reacting and exclaiming how great the newer rendition was, I am finally intrigued. :) Could we watch them together and decide? Another idea I had while listening was of introducing you to the Dutch music wiz Arjen Lucassen's project THE GENTLE STORM, in which they experimented with releasing same concept album in 2 different arrangements - acoustic folk ("gentle") and full Prog metal ("storm")! As far as I know, a thing like this had never been done before. And on different songs, the pick is hard: sometimes the power of the metal version takes over, but others - the flowing folky strumming (with the amazing vocals of Anneke van Giersbergen riding on top) just plucks at your heartstrings... And I need to mention the story put to music here is one of the more relatable and beautiful I've heard. Please continue. ;)

o0o0o - that's an interesting suggestion with Pink Floyd, I'll check it out! I think you can make a case that some of their early stuff is 'metalish' (like Achilles Last Stand - my favorite). Also curious about this Dutch project, sounds like a cool concept. I didn't know the Dutch did anything other than EDM ;) -Michael

What on Earth am I talking about? I just realized I conflated Floyd with Zeppelin - wires must have crossed when thinking about the classics 😂 (Have a Cigar in that case). But there's been a few suggestions for this High Hopes cover, so it's moving up the list! 🚀🚀

If you're ok with album-covers, try Metallica vs Sabaton, "For whom the bell tolls" or Manowar vs Sabaton, "Kingdom come". Awesome original songs and great covers!

Have u done Amon Amarth - Twighlight of the thundergod And Sabaton - Twighlight of the thundergod?
@MetalAcademix4 жыл бұрын
Not yet! But that's a solid suggestion. We did review Amon Amarth and Twilight of the Thunder God was one of the songs we picked (of course, how could we not!?) -Michael kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXLPnqCjrLaSqLM

I've never actually heard the original until now! Always thought Amaranthe's version was the original.

I think it is far easier to make a good sounding cover of a song thats made to get in your head than really write the song yourself so i am 100% with sabaton

The one I prefer is Sabaton, but Amaranthe isn’t far behind. Another battle would be Sabaton vs Follow the Cipher. Song “Carolus Rex”

I do love Amaranthe's cover of Powerwolf's Army of the Night, but what about a battle between Taylor Swift and I Prevail for the song Blank Space or Simon and Garfunkle vs Disturbed for Sound of Silence.
