Source? I know they stopped fighting, but not to observe the attack, but to wait, just because they were faster and had a shorter distance to cover than the polish. So in order for the polish to keep up, they waited. But they were already engaging the enemy lines before the polish penetrated the defences. I don't think there is much time to embrace the attack while you are part of it.

As a Serb I'm proud that our Polish slavic brothers took our traditions of cavalry and perfected them to counter our biggest enemy. For those that don't know Hussars originated from Serbian mercenary cavalry that fought for Hungary after the fall of Serbia to the Turks in 1459 many Serbians moved to Hungary and brought our cavalry traditions with them after the fall of Hungary in 1526, lot of Serbian mercenaries found employ at the king of Poland court where they trained Polish cavalry and Poles later perfected Hussars into a most deadly force, the word Hussar itself comes from Serbian word Gusar which means wanderer.

@Jaszczur 70 Actually, there was plenty of Ruthenian/Ukrainian Szlachta. Some eventually converted to polish culture, some don't. Anyway, Ruthenia originally was joined to Lithuania, and local Szlachta got their privileges guaranteed.Point is, many of them served in commonwealth military, including among hussars. (hell, i heard one guy of Ruthenian origin was elected as king of the PLC). And in most battles Commonwealth forces was supported by Cossacks, including this one. @@_Zoro01 No deal mate. History is history, we must ignore our differences and share our culture together. But yeah we didnt recognize it, I mean a strong Poland that is treathing our biggest enemy, russia of course, is a wonderful thing for us. And if I am not wrong Ottomans did take a bunch of refugees coming from Poland. So again, no problem mate.

As a Belarusian, I am sad to read comments only about Poland .. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania, along with the Kingdom of Poland, was a part of the Commonwealth .. One country, one flag, one goals, one nation!

The history of Eastern Euope is complicated. Vikings, Teutons, Slavs, Rus, Germans, we have all shed blood there, and should remember what binds us together, which is far more important than what separates us.

Story time : I remember during my skirmish or challenge gameplay of Empire total war, though I don't recall clearly, I picked the polish-Lithuanian commonwealth and I didn't know anything about the winged hussars and was pretty new to Total war in general. I went through their roster of units and found a very costly super heavy shock cavalry unit. I thought to myself we have guns right, why do we need super cavalry ? Fast forward, I picked 1 or 2 of them anyway and started the battle. Then I remembered I was fighting 1 vs 2 !! I panicked and started to form lines and strats. I was out numbered, I had better map control than them but too weak to fight straight forward. The fighting started, it was a map with 2 hill top forest areas, light to medium cover on my side and a vast open field in the middle. The joint enemy armies became visible and it was clear that they had a clear number advantage and they knew that. They did not care about my cannon fire on their exposed troops or my line man's better cover position, they knew they would win on sear numbers and attrition and advanced mercilessly !! I knew my men would not last once the lines were met. Then I had a glimpse of madness in my mind, (Spoilers ! AND THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED !! MOMENT HAPPENED!) I selected the, "SUPER SHOCK CAV" , pointed them into the THICKEST NUMBERS AND CONCENTRATION OF TROOPS!! AND DAMMIT WAS Glorious !! THE DOWN HILL CHARGE INTO THE THICKEST FIGHTING !! INTO THE CANON BALLS !! INTO MUSKET FIRE AND INTO PIKES !! AFTER THE HUSSARS MADE CONTACT , THE ENEMY PANICKED AND IMMEDIATELY STARTED SURROUNDING AND CLUMPING ON THE HUSSARS !! (it was 1-2 vs 8-10 units) The plan didn't stop there I SPRUNG MY TRAP !!! I ORDERED MY CANNONS TO FIRE !! ON TOP OF THE HUSSARS !!! -ENEMY PIKES ATTACKS ! -ENEMY LINES MAN FIRE ! -ALLY LINES MAN'S FIRE ! -ENEMY CANNON'S FIRE ! -ALLY CANNON'S FIRE ! The combined rifle and cannon fire from my side and the enemy sides fired on the clump, put too much hurt on themselves rather than on my 1-2 hussars. NOTHING BROKE THE HUSSARS !!! AND THEY KEPT ON FIGHTING!! IT WAS PANDAMONIUM!! Eventually enemies scattered and lost morale, forcing a retreat !! THE GAMBIT PAYED OFF!! WINNING AN UNWINNABLE BATTLE !!! TRULY IT WAS AMAZING !! My respect for the SUPER SHOCK CAV , THE WINGED HUSSARS increased and was earned !! I might have spiced the story a bit I think, I might have charged my general along with the hussars but don't recall. Also, now that I think of it, It actually matches the lyrics XD!!
