Fun fact: One night, during the Siege of Vienna, The Ottomans were digging an underground tunnel in order to get to the city from the ground. But the bakers, who woke up early for work, listened noises under the ground, so they call the city guards and fortunately, they saved the city delaying the Ottomans and giving time to the Winged Hussars. Hence, they were congratulated and they made a special food for the emperor. They created the croissant, with the form of the moon, which is the form of the Ottoman's flag

@Samuel Kłosowski this battle is very crucial, a turning point in history. It concerns christians, europeans and politics even to this day, so the imaginary numbers given by european sources are highly suspicious and biased. When you said over 300k men I thought u were on drugs and wouldn't even reply but I write this to wider audience. Ottomans had several garrisons and the safavid front in need of manpower so gathering over 150k men was impossible, and these numbers are the size of the army but not actual numbers during the combat in Vienna, a part of the initial army was lost during the march plus didn't even engage and were stationed on the route. Some european and predominantly turkish sources gives the numbers for ottomans 100k-120k and holy leauge 99-100k

Stefan Karaszewski was a Polish soldier who alone stopped for 2 hours an advance of 60 Nazi tanks on 5/09/1939 allowing his fellow soldiers to retreat safely. Fighting alone he destroyed 7 tanks and 1 motorvehicle and killed 11 Nazi soldiers. When he ran out of ammunition he took his own life. When Germans eventually saw only one dead body of Polish soldier they were in shock because they thougth they were fighting against a group of soldiers. Even one Polish soldier can organize a Thermopylae battle. Chwała bohaterom!

So I thought to myself, well why does this guy like Sabaton so much? I then KZbin searched it and I ended up loving this song. Great powerful vocals, a syncopated rhythm guitar, wall of sound-like synth and bass, and beautiful fills on the drums. This combined with the poetic lyrics can only mean one thing. It's power metal, and at its finest.

A cry for vid in time of need, await relief from KZbinry (KZbinrs) Twoo years of wait, outnumbered and weak (against other videos) Sent a message to the band (Sabaton), wounded faans left for death Will they hold the phones or will batteries fall (to 0%) Dedication Dedication They’re outnumbered 15 to one (in terms of subscribers of Sabaton vs subscribers of other musical channels) And the fall (of their faith if the video is gonna be released) has begun Then the winged hussars arrived Coming down Sabaton KZbin site Then the winged hussars arrived Coming down they turned the tide (drastically increased ratio of Sabaton views vs views of the other musical videos) As the months are passing by and as the whines (about the existence of the video) are piling high No escape and no salvation (after unwillingly insulting other people, because of lack of the video) Trenches to explosive shouts are buried deep beneath the walls [ of the comment section (about people rebelling "where is the video!") ] Plant the hates out there and watch the people (subscribers of other channels) fear Desperation Desperation It’s a desperate race against the mine (about the utimate rebellion in comments...) And a race against time (...and when it is gonna explode in total chaos) Then the winged hussars arrived Coming down Sabaton KZbin site Then the winged hussars arrived Coming down they turned the tide (drastically increased ratio of Sabaton views vs views of the other musical videos) Piles of views are coming down from the sky All the haters (of Sabaton) are you ready to die? We will seek our vengeance eye for an eye I didn't have any ideas for how to continue it, so it is basically the rest of the song down there. Can someone tell me I did a great job? :3 You’ll be stopped upon the steps of our gate On this field you’re only facing our hate But back home the Sultan’s sealing your fate We remember In September That’s the night Vienna was freed We made the enemy bleed! Stormclouds, fire and steel Death from above make their enemy kneel Shining armour and wings Death from above, it’s an army of kings We remember In September When the winged hussars arrived

Wrote this elsewhere, figured I'd drop it here, lol, enjoy: Teacher: "Ok class, who know anything about the siege of Vienna?" *Dramatic metal music slowly fades in from the back of the class* Teacher: "w-w- what's happening?" "When the winged hussars arrived!" Teacher: "omg... what is happening right now?" *the classroom shakes violently, dust falls from crumbling mortar as bricks smash and widows crack. Smoke and the ominous thunder of distant artillery fills the air, mingling with the powerful music as a voice begins to sing* Joachim: "A cry for help in time of need, await relief from holy league, 60 days of siege, outnumbered and weak Sent a message to the sky, wounded soldiers left to die, Will they hold the wall or will the city fall?" *The teacher, dumbstruck, adjusts his glasses, the class, enraptured at the terrible truth to which they now find themselves a part of, looking bewildered upon layers of desperate fortification, fighting positions and what looks to be a hopeless city full of starving and fearful people, some young, some old, all resisting, all fighting though outnumbered by a great army of Ottoman Turks, above whom the battle tattered flag of the great Kara Mustafa Pasha proudly flies, his Janissaries move in formation toward a breach in the city wall, but are repulsed by the cities defenders* Joachim: "Dedication, dedication, they're outnumbered 15 to one, and the battle's begun" *the class turns to the sound of distant hoof beats and the clatter of wooden wings, a substantial force of horsemen approach from atop the mountain, but will they be enough? Will they make it in time?* Joachim: "Then the winged hussars arrived! Coming down the mountainside. Then the winged hussars arrived, coming down they turned the tide!" *but would they though? The class watches in mute horror as they see the ottoman soldiers carrying explosives into a mine shaft extending nearly a mile from their camp to the walls of the beleaguered city, they mean to destroy their walls! The Janissaries approach in formation, awaiting the blast, anticipating their queue to visit death upon the belligerent city of Vienna.* Joachim: "As the days are passing by and as the dead are piling high, no escape and no salvation, trenches to explosive halls are buried deep beneath the walls, plant the charges there and watch the city fear... Desperation, desperation, it's a desperate race against the mine, and a race against time!" *gallant polish Hussars, winged and glorious bear down upon the gathered army, picking up a breakneck pace as they set themselves into a charge down the side of the mountain, with graceful violence they rush past the startled class, their focus not on them, but rather, upon the gathered host of Kara Pasha... but with the charges set, cam they make it in time? The answer comes in the clash of steel and the crack of cannons as the winged hussars barrel into the surprised janissaries, breaking their ranks and forcing a retreat. All the while Joachim sings:* "Then the winged hussars arrived! Coming down the mountainside! Then the winged hussars arrived! Coming down they turned the tide! Cannonballs are coming down from the sky! Janissaries are you ready to die? We will seek our vengeance eye for an eye. You'll be stopped upon the steps of our gate. On this field you're only facing our hate but back home the sultan's sealing your fate" Joachim is then joined by a chorus of grateful survivors from the city below as they rejoice: "We remember, in September, that's the night Vienna was freed, we made the enemy bleed!" Then the Hussars march by chanting, "Storm clouds, fire and steel, death from above make their enemy kneel..." *then, just as quickly as it had begun, the broken walks of the class reform themselves, leaving a tongue tied teacher, his bewildered class, and a surly looking metal singer standing before them. The teacher says nothing, the class is silent.* Joachim: "and that's what happened at the battle of Vienna," the class bell rings, "class dismissed," he drops his mic and walks out.

Not really, by the end of XVII century, Poland was in a steady decline, after the Swedish Deluge in 1655-1660. In XVIII century, after King Jan III Sobieski died, the Commonwealth fell into more and more political chaos with every decade passing, culminating in its ultimate downfall and partitions (second and third, first took place in 1773) in 1790s.

Less than a year after the Polish republic was freed from Russian control, with interwar Poland still finding her footing after years of oppression by her neighbors, they managed to beat back the Red Army as the Communists attempted to join the uprising in Germany. With the backing of the Red Army there is little doubt that the German uprising would have been overtaken by Soviet backed Communists rather than the Weimar Republic that ended up forming following the uprising. We've got Poland to thank for checking the spread of toxic Soviet Communism in Europe. The sad irony of it all being that in turn Poland herself would later on be subjected to it for decades afterwards. It is a terrible shame the West allowed Poland to fall behind the Iron Curtain. A Polish friend of mine has a saying "For most of the world WWII ended in 1945. For us in the East it didn't end until 1991."

Casimir Pulaski was a Polish nobleman that traveled thousands of miles away from his homeland of Poland to join the battle of independence for a fledgling nation that would come to be known as the United States of America, with a Hungarian noble named Michael Kovats they would combine their military intelligence to become the Founding Fathers of the American Cavalry. Both men shed blood and lost their lives fighting the British to aid the American rebels and both men would go on to be legends in the American mythos for their role in the creation of America's military. Pulaski even has several American counties named in his honor and many statues built to commemorate him. In 2009 he was awarded honorary citizenship as an American citizen, in the US only 8 foreigners have been given this honor including him, sharing the stage with two other legendary men in French General Lafayette and former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Poland is a fantastic nation and as an American I think we're lucky to have them as an ally. They're fierce fighters and proud people.

@@Hungabrigoo He was a pretty awesome man, he looked like an absolute chad too. Most Illustrious Sir: Golden freedom cannot be purchased with yellow gold. I, who have the honor to present this letter to your Excellency, am also following the call of the Fathers of the Land, as the pioneers of freedom always did. I am a free man and a Hungarian. As to my military status I was trained in the Royal Prussian Army and raised from the lowest rank to the dignity of a Captain of the Hussars, not so much by luck and the mercy of chance than by most diligent self discipline and the virtue of my arms. The dangers and the bloodshed of a great many campaigns taught me how to mold a soldier, and, when made, how to arm him and let him defend the dearest of the lands with his best ability under any conditions and developments of the war. I now am here of my own free will, having taken all the horrible hardships and bothers of this journey, and I am willing to sacrifice myself wholly and faithfully as it is expected of an honest soldier facing the hazards and great dangers of the war, to the detriment of Joseph and as well for the freedom of your great Congress. Through the cooperation and loyal assistance of Mr. Faedevill, a merchant of this city and a kind sympathizer of the Colonies and their just cause, I have obtained passage on a ship called "Catharina Froam Darmouth ", whose master is a Captain Whippy. I beg your Excellency, to grant me a passport and a letter of recommendation to the most benevolent Congress. I am expecting companions who have not yet reached here. Your Excellency would be promoting the common cause by giving Mr. Faedevill authorization to expedite their passage to the Colonies once they have arrived here. At last, awaiting your gracious answer, I have no wish greater than to leave forthwith, to be where I am needed most, to serve and die in everlasting obedience to Your Excellency and the Congress. Most faithful unto death, Bordeaux, January 13th, 1777. Michael Kovats de Fabricy P. S: As yet I am unable to write, fluently in French or English and had only the choice of writing either in German or Latin; for this I apologize to your Excellency. That's the letter he wrote to Benjamin Franklin requesting he be allowed to aid and fight for the American cause in our revolution. Kovats also spent time in the military serving under the legendary Fredrick the Great, another mark of prestige for such a great man.

And after the battle, while looting Cara Mustafa's camp, the soldiers found coffee beans and the paraphernalia to prepare the drink; starting our love affair with coffee. There were no hipsters yet, but for them to arrive was inevitable. There was no tattoos or piercing at that time either, as it was frowned on by the religions of the time. There was plenty of great mustaches, though, and sometimes very outlandish armor on these great warriors - but nothing compared to the armor and trappings of a winged Hussar.

Respect for Turkey for not recognize partitions of Poland. "Lechia milletvekili henüz gelmedi" - eternal respect for Turkey for that! Following the Partitions of Poland the Ottoman Empire along with Qajar Iran were the only major countries in the world which did not recognise the final partition of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.[1] An anecdote exists recounting the exchange between the chef de protocol of and his aide of Ottoman Empire which is widely recounted today in Poland. According to the tale, whenever the diplomatic corps was received by the Ottoman sultan, on the sight of the empty chair of the Polish deputy, the Ottoman chef de protocol would ostentatiously ask: “Where is the deputy from Lehistan?” ~Wikipedia
