Tourism is booming in Zanzibar again, and it's mostly thanks to Eastern Europe. Russians and Ukranians have been pouring into Zanzibar by the truckloads recently, and the Zanzibaris are rushing to learn Russian. I traveled to Kendwa and Nungwi in the north to see what was up.

You're my kind of traveler. Expensive resorts can be anywhere by a beach and be very similar. These Russian people bore me. There are Russians that excite me, but not these. Going to a place and learning their language and communicating with folks that live in villages, that's real traveling and really experiencing a place. Because you speak in their language, are respectful, are adventurous, and a bit kinda crazy to do some of what you do, I've subscribed to your channel. And I'm also from New York.

Ben... Yes i totally agree with you. Im Russian myself and i spent about 8 years in Kenya and could visited tanzania several times. Know some basic swahili, luo and kikuiyu languages. But the problem is that whenever I talk to someone here they automatically switch to English, all of them, including my wife 😂 but on Kenya, especially in Nairobi swahili is stronly mixed with english and few other local languages.. The outcome is called Shang. So probably thts why they prefer English here unlike the coastal regions or tanzania. Generally speaking majority of my fellow Russians bore me as well)) i always try to convince them to learn English as it is a gate to other cultures. As for me i did it when i was a kid)) thanks to video games, because our English program in schools suck(

Hakuna Matata is not Zanzibari, this is originated from musician group in Kenya who started singing about Kenya Hakuna Matata, Zanzibar Music is mainly Taraab. I AM Zanzibari born and done all my education there, but a lot of so called Zanzibari Tourist guides needs to be educated about history of Zanzibar, they have been distorting the history and they tell tourist lots of lies about Zanzibar, at least I see you have done your home work on the real history. Even now the original Zanzibari dialect is disappearing slowly.

Yes russians would also avoid dead drunk scotts tattoed just like they were released from prison recently, with their dumb stag parties. Tanzania is now closed for russians so you can enjoy only company of your shouting fellows around

I’ve apparently kinda noticed that in Berlin as well. Many people may approach you with a smile, you think they are being friendly but a few mins into the conversation and you realize that they are trying to sell you a product or service. Find it sad that people can’t talk to you genuinely without wanting something in return especially financial wise. 🤦🏽‍♂️

*Zanzibari beaches are really great and I would love to travel there... but these days it's really hard to travel as you don't know when lockdown starts anywhere and there would be no flights. But I am amazed by seeing these white sand beaches in Zanzibar.* 😉 from #Pakistan 🇵🇰

I might not be a professional about decoding people's body language but if you look closely at this girl's hands just a bit after 0:40 I think it's pretty clear what is actually in her mind... ;)
