DEUTSCHLAND! 🇩🇪 That's Germany, if you prefer. Germany has had a...complicated past, one could say. Barely 30 years ago, it emerged from the Cold War reunited--the two former halves of West Germany and East Germany joined back together to from the economic powerhouse that dominates the EU today.
But who are the Germans exactly? I had always heard they were cold, serious and always working. They said it was hard to make friends there. And it recent times, they say the country is now overrun with migrants, like the rest of Europe. Well, like anywhere else I go, I wanted to find out first-hand. This is my trip to Germany.

So apologies if some of these videos are a bit late. I've been to so many places that not all of them will make it onto KZbin. If you'd like to see my trips in Holland 🇳🇱, Italy 🇮🇹, and the Baltics 🇱🇹🇱🇻, I'll be posting those on Patreon. If you wanna watch and also support ya boy out in the field, all you gotta do is pitch in $5. Check it out here: www.patreon.com/sabbaticaltommy

My Dad was a Army Combat Engineer in Germany during and after World War 2. He always said we messed up letting Russia take Germany. We should have done it. Russia was a problem ever after World War 2. He said the people of Germany like the Americans, not Hitler. He liked the Germans a lot. During the war he was putting down pontoon bridges. After Germany fell he was loading up unexploded bombs and mines into trucks, hauling them to German Bunkers, and blowing them up. He said it just rolled the top over. They were very thick and strong. Obviously, after the war he did not like noise. I was born early during World War 2 in the US.

Why do you think part of the reason of nuking Japan to surrender was also important. Because otherwise it would have ended up in a land invasion of Japan with US one side and Russia the other. Besides the fact 30x more people would have died in a land invasion than nuking 2 cities. Russia beat us to Berlin first. We’re lucky they even let us split it without major conflict.

you can look forward to getting a few tickets from the speed cameras in a few weeks from the rental company. On the autobahn, you can only go as fast as you want where the sign is posted with a white circle with black diagonal lines on it, usually between cities, in busier places and on the outskirts of the cities, the speed limit is usually 100KPH or there abouts. But great videos, I love them.

That wasn't Checkpoint Charlie was it? Looks very different now. Back then a few of the subway stops of the West Berlin side actually crossed through East Berlin. You couldn't stop at those stations of course. They were closed and the train car just sped through. Back around 1990-91 East Berliners were selling East German military souvenirs. Medals, helmets, even an entire uniform. Just on the other side of Checkpoint Charlie people were also selling pieces of the Wall to tourists.

Germany has many of the most beautiful places in the world. Romantic towns, beautiful forests, breath taking mountains and nature scenery. So much history, castles, islands…seriously whoever says anything negative about Germany is either wholly ignorant and never saw how much beauty and diversity is in this country to be found, or he is just trying to troll. How many people heard about Heidelberg before? Rothenburg ob der Tauber? Look at these places alone and then know there are literally countless of similar towns which got so much history and beautiful architecture etc. and Germany also got a modern site, big buzzing cities…I lived years in America, absolutely loved it. But when I came to Germany and discovered all the different sites and places, my boy my boy, I never really realized before what a treasure this place is. So even the title of this video is super weird. When I see other Americans travel abroad to Germany and first discover it, they can’t stop being amazed by the architecture and beautiful landscape (especially if you love historical beauty and you love the aesthetic of European architecture) .

Meh, it's not as much ignorance as you think. Some people do not agree with the rigidity and coldness of the culture, and aren't interested in monuments or architecture. How many people actually go to the German countryside? Not sure if it's beautiful, most countryside are tho. Overall Germany gets a bad rap for factors that don't have a ton to do with appreciating beauty(where you can find there as well as any other country).

@@pumpkinpiex thank you so much for responding I truly appreciate it. I'd also like to mention that according to Rick Steves when he went to the cemetery 100,000 German citizens were killed opposing Hitler before the Holocaust started. That's enough bullets to shut anyone's mouth. Horrible nightmare my people live through.

If you go to Germany, don't go to Berlin. Almost all of history has been destroyed there. Go to Saxony (Dresden and Bautzen, like shown in the video) and Bavaria (Munich and the beautiful Alps are the best things Germany has to offer). You can also find more ww2 history there, by going to Hilters mountian home and the eagels nest, than you will ever find in Berlin.

Berlin is full of history ! More than in München ! But a lot of facades had been destroyed in the final days of ww2, yes.
