I went to Hallstatt, Austria earlier this year and learned that they're suffering from overtourism because of the Hallstatt replica in China. People visit the fake Hallstatt and then decide they want to travel to Europe to see the real thing. They had to limit the number of tour buses allowed in on any given day because overtourism was becoming such a problem (lucky for me I picked a pretty quiet day to go and was able to enjoy the town without fighting crowds)

In Hallstatt they have over 1700 visitors per inhabitant per year. In Venice i think they have around 30 or something. It's not just China though, it's also Korea, Japan, Arabic countries and a bit from everywhere. It will be restricted in the future, they are planning something just at the moment.

I lived in China from 2005-2008. I love watching your videos. A lot of China has changed since I lived there and sometimes with current events I don’t recognize the China that I knew. The experience with that shop owner at 26:00 that they just randomly invited you for tea and watermelon is exactly how I remember China. Yes it was a difficult country but in the end the people were so incredibly welcoming and warm. I miss it.

I lived in Asia for 5 years as a kid and my parents were always very kind and respectful and friendly to everyone wherever we went and so we naturally were too. Many times people were surprised that we were (U.S.) American kids since some Americans are so loud and rude. During Song Dynasty… coz of the emperor fled to Hangzhou from Northern foreigner invaded… he then temporarily settled in Hangzhou…. later he changed the name of this city as Linan (meaning Temporary safety settled down) ; after the war was ended…. After he returned to the capital palace…. Then Hangzhou was name again…. there was still a town by the name of Linan, just beside Hangzhou… now become suburbs of Hangzhou.

Sabbatical was asked a few times by older women if he was married. It's quite common that the older generation in China cares about if a person around 30 is married and suggests him/her to marry and have children, but I didn't expect them to ask an American tourist this question😂. They generally think a person should get married and start a family by around 30. The younger generation generally cares little about if a person is married or not. There are a lot difference between older and younger generations.

For anyone confused by the flickering lights: Cameras made in America/lighting in America operates at a standard of 60Hz (this can be changed in-camera, of course), but China uses a 220V 50Hz system. As a result, the strobing of the lights at 50Hz causes aliasing due to the desync with his cameras 60Hz frequency (NTSC). It can be fixed by switching to the proper frequency for the lighting environment you find yourself in (In this case, Tommy should switch to PAL 50Hz).

How many cities around the Earth have a ChinaTown... No one says... oh London, NYC, SanFran, LA, etc should Not be trying to make a knock off copy of China... People go to ChinaTowns for a synthetic version of China, the same way they go to Disney for a Synthetic version of Europe. China have abc, xyz towns... are a homage to the synthetic places of other parts of the world. Many people can only afford to go to the synthetic copies/versions... and some will be 'inspired' to actually visit the Original.
