I'm Jamaican and I'd never ever randomly walk into Trench Town and I grew up nearby. Thing with Jamaicans is for the most part they don't mess with tourists. I've seen tourists casually walking into places that locals would never go and nothing happens to them lol

Wow! There's a handful of vloggers I check out and was determined to not let the count exceed the fingers of one hand; now here you come forcing me to add one finger from the other hand. LOL. Thank you so much, Tommy. That was illuminating. I'm from the far west of the island but worked my first six years of adulthood in Kingston before emigrating. In 40+ years I had not set foot back in 'Town' until 2019, being taken around by my comfortable age mates. My next visit will have me open up a bit more so as to see more, thanks to you. BTW, the language thing is no coincidence. The slave trade to Jamaica was almost entirely from West Africa. And it lasted hundreds of years during which time an English pidgin had developed there that was transported to the island by the newcomers. Superimpose this atop the Akan language of 'Twi' (from Ghana) which the first slaves spoke, along with the English of the colonial masters, and you get the Patois of Jamaica. Beyond Akan Twi, I've personally identified Patois words and constructs from Igbo, Yoruba, Wollof and Ewe. So, no surprise. --Æ.

And, it isn't typical of our youngsters here to be calling people they do not know MFers, or any derogatory name for that matter, especially not to our visitors! I was actually quite taken aback by that. That was disappointing. Thank you for being fair in your portrayal of our country. You are courageous and REALLY cool.😊 Enjoy your time on our beautiful island nation. One love!🇯🇲🇺🇸

I was wondering if those guys were hostile. I was actually a little worried about Tommy. Never been to Jamaica but I'd love to see your beautiful island, esp the nature that is very beautiful there. You mind if I ask what was the deal with those guys in the park? Greetings from Las Palmas, Gran Canary, Spain (thou I was born & raised in Maracaibo, VEN) 💜

They were just kids being kids.

@@Marisolita_95They were wrong to do it but they didn't mean any arm. They were just rude kids being playful. Messing around because they know it's a term often used by foreigners. They didnt meant any form of aggression, but as he said he is in the rougher part of the city so you will find kids like these here and there but for the most part kids are mannerable like the ones in Trench Town that just saw a random stranger and say good evening or just mind their own business.

@@Bestadem1 Ok, thanks for the proper explanation. Thou I find it a little strange that locals greet foreigners by saying 'whatsup mthfuka', but as you said, he was walking thru the rough neighborhood so... those guys acting like that, it's kinda understandable, I guess. I just thought if they tried to provoke Tommy, but apparently they didn't.

@@Marisolita_95 Growing up in Jamaica most of the American media consumed comes from movies, usually gangster ones . That’s what they think Americans talk to each other as that’s what is shown in the movies

Wow! Jamaica looks more Africa. Now I love it more than I used to. You know, 90% of Africans love Jamaica yet they know very little about her. All love from Kenya🇰🇪

What he’s showing are the ghettos which are the worse parts of Jamaica.

@@robecohill1360 I know but we are the same. He was in Africa and in Kenya and he filmed ghettos. It doesnt matter where but I see my brothers all over. This is great

@Jessenia Colon I have seen Kingston uptown many times. I have searched Jamaica many times. Like I said, many Africans love Jamaica but what I like about Sabbatical is that he shows what internet does not show. He visits the farm life and everything

@Jessenia Colon How do you think Africa looks? Ooh! You meant Jamaica/Kingston is a bit more developed than Africa?

I went to Trench Town School. I went to work at UWI Mona in the 1980s and was too scared to go Trench Town and it seem everyone was too scared too! Wow! Much respect to Sabbatical!

I take it that Trenchtown is the poorer part of town, still it's pretty clean. The streets are in fairly good condition and people aren't harassing you for money.
