Nurses do shift work and I'm just wondering if that makes anything better. This seems like the only "solution" I'm hearing from NDoH side. It hasn't been mentioned how there are hospitals that had ghost Drs hired and that money for those posts was chowed. Corruption, more than anything else has led to "oops, no budget". Even the billions that are being mentioned are probably not all going to the currently employed Drs. The conditions in these clinics and hospitals in terms of infrastructure (rurals especially) is another issue on its own. Corruption at every level.

This never surprised anymore. My brother died after a surgery performed by south African doctors that went wrong at Johannesburg Hospital. There was a huge arguement the day of his passing, the senior doctor harshly reprimanding those doctors after a mistake made was realized and as a fact that brother would die. So, just talk unemployment and keep foreigners out. Period.

SA medical personel are waiting to leave for greener pastures, with the medical infrastructure collapsing, no beds, just mattresses, Dr's unemployed, medical equipment not serviced + out of order - without the NHI bill promulgated. It's better for systems to crash then it can be rebuilt, said the memba of parly + finance minister this week. Just how idiotic is that? But that's seems to be the plan to not catch a glass before it hits the ground. Politicians asking ppl to relax with plans that are nothing but disasters really are presumptuous without shame. Why not save a glass before it hits the ground? But that's not even an option it seems. Let it all goes to waste - who cares if expertise leave SA or if ppl die? No one it seems. Serious budget cuts by politicians - but politicians never cut back on looting - they also don't get prosecuted, why are ppl surprised when they are the 1s cutting back budgets? Patients, medical personel + infrastructure simply are collateral damage. Minister of health, dr mkize still walks free after horrific accusations re conspiring political violence + assassinations in KZN, the killing of Nkabinda, Babita Deokaran + Kwezi, PIC loans of R11 million to his wife + illegally chartered planes - by ppl who are suppose to save lives. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zweli_Mkhize. Human rights grossly compromised but no investigations, HRC not even involved, no step aside rule or any prosecutions whatsoever. What are the chances of young medical graduates getting employment in a structured + orderly way? Not as long as the same looters + planless politicians dominate the corridors of power.

I don’t understand how our government still choose this guy to answer to our grievances since he obviously has a problem with doctors since long ago. His numbers are wrong and he obviously doesn’t want us or our patient to benefit in making sure their health care is taken care of and we are employed as doctors. The government is failing us yet again. I mean, we worked in the bunduz and we understand the challenges we were faced with in terms of resources, but we still did our best with the little that we had to try and give the best healthcare we could to our rural patients…and now we have to fight just to go back to that life and try to uplift our patients while making sure we are still able to put bread ematafuleni emakhaya ethu

Let them cancel Resolution 01 of 2004 which talks to rural allowance and use that money to pay unemployed health workers, because the way it is implemented right now is unjust & unfair since other professional categories are not included till today. FYI, that allowance is non-pensionable and it ranges from 8-22% of the notch depending on professional category and ISRDS nodes. Imagine using a resolution that is almost 20 years old in a dynamic world. If they managed to stop the scarce skills allowance,they can also stop this allowance and treat everyone the same,because in a health system everyone is important ,from a porter to a doctor. Moreover, I hope one day there will be an aggressive legal will to challenge these disparities.

Yes. Open a private practice and watch money go down the drain. And then there's the looming NHI angst who knows how that will play on the DOH dysfunction. Best bite the bullet now, find the money, immigrate, start again. The Minister might experience emotion if the health budget cuts his job.
@andrewviljoen25679 ай бұрын
Everyone speaks of budget constraints. Yet it was the government that made the ruling to increase medical school intake. Therefore the maths says. If you increase in the intake. You will increase the output. So they wanted more doctors. But didn’t provide financially for it. It’s quite simple. Regarding frozen posts. They stopped using that term. Government didn’t like the term “frozen post” as it made them look bad. So instead of frozen posts. The government removed that post off their books. So yes. There are no frozen posts. (They don’t exist anymore) It’s political jargon to confuse people. And still people on the ground suffer. NHI was going to be their bailout. But NHI has taken longer than expected to implement. Hopefully NHI will employ these unemployed doctors. But they will be unemployed till then.
@rn8292911 ай бұрын
I feel sorry for the government representative, what do they want him to say.... There is not sufficient budget, we need to grow the economy to get more tax to hire more people. We need a new government that promotes initiatives that grows the economy thereby increasing the tax base, to allow for the hiring of more staff. This is not rocket science people.

Unemployed Doctors must be Creative and Come together to form their Medical Centres
@khens456211 ай бұрын
That's a great idea If money is not a problem. However since they are unemployed I'd assume that money is a huge challenge. Opening your own practice requires you to have established your clientele so imagine spending +/- half a million (equipment is expensive) on getting the practice up and running only for you to have four to five patients a week for the first couple of months. The practice may only start being profitable after two years. Plus let's also remember that most people these days are struggling to cover their basic expenses, having medical aid now is a luxury for many. My point is, opening a practice requires connections and money.

The sad reality is the entitlement the doctors graduate have for having graduated. a qualification alone is not enough, you need to have a well written CV, Apply as much as you can, be presentable, out spoken and be able to sell your self.
@thembanimgenu19011 ай бұрын
Presentable to who and probably what does presentable mean? Doctors aren't lawyers or marketing exactives.
@n.cmpakama58910 ай бұрын
I don't know if you get the point. I agree with your opinion on being able to sell yourself and all but this is not just about, "We're qualified, employ us because we deserve it." I personally, as an Independent Practitioner am now working in private. This was not my first choice. There are people from the same or similar background as me who cannot afford medical aid and better healthcare services. For me, that's one of the main reasons I decided to become a doctor, to serve the underprivileged. It's not about entitlement and having a better CV. Getting into private is also not easy. It's the sacrifices and improvising we had to make in rural public hospitals and clinics because majority of our patients can't even afford to come for healthcare services on time for early intervention and resources were very limited. Imagine working in a hospitals with no Panado for children, which is one of the safest things you can give to manage symptoms in an ailing child. We did overtime that was above and beyond what we got paid in terms of hours spent at work, regardless of how exhausted, hungry or dehydrated you are but you're prioritizing critical patients before your own wellbeing. The number of unemployed Drs is not even half of the vacant and/or frozen posts. I could go on the whole day but we have multiple crises in South Africa because of poor governance and administration. It's not about us as you're implying or as it's made to seem. This matter being the primary focus at the moment does not make any other unemployed youths' struggle inferior in any way. It's about the overall effect on the basic human right, that is access to healthcare for all.
