Concerns over unfinished road project in Badfontein

Another road infrastructure project has been abandoned due to non-payment in Mpumalanga. Residents of Badfontein and surrounding farms are concerned that the R36 road is a death trap. The contractor has suspended work on the 10-kilometre stretch of road in Badfontein, which connects Lydenburg and Machadosdorp. It's alleged the provincial Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport has not paid the contractor for more than three months. The R36 road is used by heavy-loaded trucks carrying chrome from Limpopo province.
