Sabian HH Vangaurd Cymbals Review by Sweetwater

Nick D'Virgilio presents an assortment of Sabian's HH Vanguard cymbals. "HH" denotes that these cymbals are hand-hammered by expert craftsmen in the old-world tradition. A smaller vintage bell provides a fast response, while the tapered edge delivers a smoother attack. The lathing technique creates well-balanced tonality along with a loose feel.

Love the sound of these cymbals, I've been a big time Sabian fan for 10 years, straight when I started playing drums. It's the only cymbal company I use, loving the Legacy Heavy 22" I bought from you guys at PASIC 17!!

He technically no longer endorses any company. Even though he was a big time Mapex, Meinl, Paiste and Aquarian player for his career with Spock's Beard, working with Sweetwater he has needed to become impartial to gear he makes demos of and while he does say that he likes Meinl and Paiste for his own playing, he is not limited to those brands anymore. That's why he played a Pearl kit for the Morsefest show, a Sonor kit for the Big Big Train show and a DW kit for his Drumeo performance. He explained this more in depth in his Drumeo video.

They are trying to compete with the very popular Zildjan Keropes. I much prefer the Keropes.

Hey Nick since you work for Sweetwater you can probably answer my question. Are Sabian XS20's still being made, are you guys still selling them and if so do you know for how much longer?? because I heard the Xsr line was going to replace them but I still see them in stock on certain websites..I currently use XS20 and I want to buy some back ups just in case

Well, maybe it's because of sizes of these cymbals, but their dark sound and quick decay reminds me of brass cymbals.

@@Jeremy_Sims I have the 22" hhx complex medium ride, and the vanguard ride is easily as tasty. Don't underestimate this line! I borrowed a friends recently and was blown away.

agreed, if i was going for that warm classic dark crash sound, id probably go with Zildjian K's. due to the resounding success of the HHX line, they had to do something with the HH's, but i guess how much can you really upgrade something marketed primarily as vintage sounding :P

Vanguard's were actually part of Crescent Cymbals. After Sabian bought out Crescent, they incorporated the Vanguard's into their HH line.
