I don't normally like to listen to coloratura sopranos as their high notes often sound shrill to me. But this lady approaches perfection. Her top notes are crisp and clear, and the fioritura is executed with the highest degree of agility and skill. She injects feeling into the aria too - and if all that wasn't enough, she has a very striking appearance. She turns this aria into more than just a show piece.

58 year old metal head here. Decided to indulge in something different. Wish I spoke French. This lady is amazing. Is it natural talent, or years of training, or both? I had no idea that a human being had this range of voice. Is it supposed to make me cry when I can't even understand the words? I'm confused, and amazed.

It takes the whole body, with the diaphragm running the show. Having that much resonance in your head on the highest notes is extremely weird, indescribable, and not at all pleasant at the beginning, at least that’s how I experienced it.

@@theoperazone3862 Seriously? How is that even a question? A whole lot which is why she out sells thousands of people desperately trying to reach her level. For one she is able to bring her chest voice to the top of the staff which Sabine cannot do with any consistency. This allows for a powerful sound in a way that Sabine doesn't accomplish. Adele also provides a whole slew of style options such as consonant exaggeration, slides, and runs that Sabine simply doesn't have the level of experience in. How are people so ignorant? In a contest of pop music Adele would win hands down even when judges by opera fans such as myself. We don't have to denigrate one type of singing to promote our own. But rest assured that each style of singing requires its own technique and its own path to mastery.

No, it did not. Opéra-Comique is the name of the theatre in Paris where this was performed (and also where Lakmé was first performed in 1883).
