#1 Airport in the US for bird strikes since it sits in open space between Sacramento and Woodland right in the middle of the Pacific flyway. If you fly in the winter months, expect delays for fog. Back in 1990 when the government shut down Mather Air Force base in Rancho Cordova, there was talk of moving the Sacramento Airport to Mather. At the time SMF was not that big and moving it would have been easy. Moving the Airport to the Mather site would have cure the bird and fog issues.

You mentioned Yolo Bus, but the Airport is in Sacramento County and the public transportation for there is called Regional Transit, or RT. If you don't mention the public transportation for that county, people are not going to have any idea.

Yolo Bus is the only public bus transportation to downtown Sacramento.
