So fucking good. This EP, and the two albums that immediately followed it are some of the best punk rock to ever come out of America. Unfortunately not too many people were paying attention, and they kind of got brushed under the carpet of history. Early Legal Weapon *SHOULD* be held in equally high regards as bands like Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, etc. They may not have been as ‘hardcore’ as those bands, but they had just as much passion, energy, and power... plus extremely well written songs. Kat’s voice is one of the best that punk ever produced. It’s a crime that she passed away without ever seeing her band get the credit they deserved. RIP Kat.

@@camvillar8177 Black Flag was "shit"? Ok. I'll just let anyone else who happens to be reading this respond to that one. I'll give you this much... BF definitely *became* shit around '84 or so. Before that it was a very different story. You have no music listed on your channel, so I have no frame of reference as to who you consider "good" and who you consider "shit", but as a musician I can tell you this much... if you think Dead Kennedys and Bad Brains were made up of members with little or no musical talent, then you must not be a musician.

One other thing. I think you missed the whole point of my original post, which is that I always thought it was a damn shame that LW didn't get the recognition by the public at large that those other bands I mentioned did. It wasn't meant to be some dick-waving contest as to who were better musicians and songwriters. That's all subjective anyway. It's a great big world with a lot of different opinions coming into play. I'm not gonna go down that rabbit hole. All I'm saying is that Legal Weapon deserve a much higher level of recognition for their contributions to both L.A. punk and to music in general. Anything else is an entirely different discussion.

This one and DOI are my faves for sure. Having an incredible line up of players backing them up didn't hurt. It's like LA punk royalty, not to downplay some of the other albums that are also solid..

The first and second albums (plus this EP) were some of the BEST American punk rock ever recorded, and they were also amazing live. I saw them in late ‘82 playing a Tuesday night to a crowd of maybe only 25-30 people, and they still rocked the fucking roof off. I’ve never understood why they didn’t get the same level of recognition as so many other L.A. bands did back then. They were WAY better than a lot of more well known bands from that scene/era.

Common thing in recording studios in L.A. is to add a second layer of vocals on top of the original main vocals. Gives them more death that they dont have naturally. Yes she's a good singer but live her vocals sound different. I like this band overall but a lot of studio magic can be done to make a band sound better than they are. Still happens today. I remember having a younger relative that loved one direction. I told her she should look online to find some live stuff by them to see how they really sound live. She came back to me a week later and told me live they sounded awful. Studio recordings are never a good representation of how a band really sounds. Some are better live, some are worse.
