10 years of public education in Norway taught me only two things. First: The fire pyramid. A fire needs air, burnable material, and heat. If you remove one, you can not have a fire. Second: The only thing the job site really cares about, is you showing up. Everything else is secondary. I run out of fingers above the number ten, and I do not know the order of the alphabet. But what I do know, is that reliability is without a doubt the most important trait you can bring to work. A reliable halfwit is far more preferable than an unreliable genius.
@davidhill13343 жыл бұрын
I’m Irish from Dublin Ireland. I want to live in Norway some day soon. Where would you recommend. I absolutely love the cold snow region
@Hugebull3 жыл бұрын
@@davidhill1334 Well, we can go through some posititves and then some negatives. Norway is a resource colony for Europe. 70-80% of our exports are to do with the exporting of raw resources to other countries. Raw oil, refined oil, and natural gas. And fish. The oil alone consists of half of our exports. So, whenever there is a drop in global oil prices, we have a recession. And when there is an oil price spike, we do really very well. Such as now, the oil fund is doing really well. Southern Norway is integrated with the European energy market, which means we have to pay the European price for energy, which is hurting a lot of bank accounts right now. ----- Now, when we are looking for places to go and live. First of all, wait for the housing prices to drop, which they must. Right now, the entire market is silly, and it must go off a cliff soon. Buying a house right now would be nothing but silly. ----- But, for places to live: I live in the Southwest. This is the agricultural zone of Norway, and it is also the oil center of the country. The climate is pretty close to that of the British Isles, such as northern England and Scotland. The southwest is just a tiny bit colder in general. We have the mildest winters in the country, so we do not get a ton of snow. And the lowest I think the temperature was last winter, was -16C I believe. Which was the coldest winter we have had in a very, very long time. I live on the border where the southwest flatland ends and where the Scandinavian mountain chain begins. Giving me a fantastic view over beautiful green land. That is in one direction. In the other direction, tall snow clad mountains. So, even if we have mild winters right here, it only takes half an hour of driving, and you are surrounded by snowy mountains in winter. From my house, I am surrounded by small mountain close to my south. There are some taller mountains to my north. To the west I can see across the grassland all the way to the ocean. And to the east I can see tall snow covered peaks in the distance. So I would highly recommend the south or southwest. Either in Southern Rogaland or in Agder. Just stay away from the cities, such as Stavanger and Kristiansand. Norway never did much urban planning, which means we have some of the worst features from the American sprawl and the cramped European styles. But once you're in a small town it is all fine. Also housing cost is silly in the urban areas, but tend to be decent in the smaller places. Even now that the prices are nuts. ----- Then you have more northern parts of Norway, such as Trøndelag, where you will find the city of Trondheim. This region is quite stunning. And also, the electrical grid in northern Norway is not connected to Europe. Meaning cheap electricity. So from here and northward, there is not going to be a lot of people. And it is a beautiful region. Though.... beware the insects during winter. ----- So the land of Norway is some of the most beautiful you will see in Norway. But being a resource colony has a level of economic unpredictability that can be unpleasant to plan around the long term. ------ But then we have to talk about culture. This is the reason, just as you wish to live in Norway, I wish to move to the heart of the American continent. I am a dogmatic Christian. Which means that I am pretty much alone. Modern Social Liberalism is the very foundation of Norway. And you will not find a single drop of Social Conservatism in mainstream thought. Anything and everything that happened before WW2 is seen as ancient history and completely irrelevant. The Church of Norway has female Priests. And probably more Priestesses than male Priests at this point. The Military is forced to become 50% male 50% female. And all public companies and governments must at least be 40%-60% in gender balance, or else they are not allowed to operate. ------ And, although we have free speech. The hate-speech law overrides it. And it is set up in such a way: That, if person A says something that person B finds insulting. And it has to do with gender, race, ethicity or culture. Then person B can report person A to the police for a hate crime. Then person A has to prove that what he said was not, in fact, insulting. Meaning you are guilty until proven innocent. And all is built upon what person B felt. ------ Up until the 1990s, Norway only had 1 news channel on TV. And this has been the case for decades, as the Labor Party did not allow private broadcasting at all. But then they liberalized once cabel came. So they allowed Disney to come in and operate the second TV channel with news. Meaning every single piece of news that Norwegians consume on TV either comes from the Government, or it comes from Disney. So, do not expect interesting conversations on politics or world events. ------ So, if you are one of the Liberal Urban types, then you will fit right into Norway. For them it must seem like utopia. But if you lean just a touch Socially Conservative, it feels like a prison. ------- It is a beautiful country. One of the most beautiful places you can live. You have the right to walk anywhere you want in the wild and around farms, as long as there is a path to walk on. Which means if you like to walk in the wilderness, Norway is a fantastic place. If there is anything else you may wish to know, just go ahead and ask.
