2022 is the saddest year for Singapore Bus Enthusiasts as more CDGE and E4 buses were send to scrap. Now an Alexander Dennis Enviro 500 is also going to retired. Registered as SMB5012T, the bus was involved into an accident in 2021. After a year, the bus was finally send to scrap mark the first DD Bus with tree poles to retired in SMRT fleet. Even though its a euro 5 bus, they can still live longer than euro 4. Hopefully we can still see those euro 5 buses in the coming years.

R.I.P. SMB5012T 2014 - 2022 After 8 years of transporting passengers and driving around Singapore, the bus was eventually retired due to the incident involved in 2021 and it was unable to fix the damage bus.

Not surprising since I heard an E500 in HK (likely from KMB) also got retired at around 3-5 years of age due to fire damage).

Reminds me of that one B9TL CDGE, SBS7440T which was deregistered & scrapped in 2010 after only 8 years in service due to a fire at ang mo kio depot, the same fire that destroyed SBS9888Y, the Volvo B10TL Demo as well😔

SBS7440T had only 3 years of service from January 2007 to March 2010, not 8 years.

It can't be helped. Structural damage is a safety hazard and is often difficult to repair. This looks more a like a write-off because the repair costs and loss of revenue are too much compared to shifting the work to another bus. LTA got an extensive fleet of buses sitting around waiting anyway, so it's not so much a big deal on the operator's side.

It could be repair by rebuild, as long as the chassis or engine not damaged,order a new body kit from ADL. Or send it back to zuhai china factory for rebuild. HK KMB had did a similar bodykit replacement repair, just that sing guys dont have this encounter. I think is cost concern. It could be damaged by the trees from the roadside. Buses are sing gov vehicle, buy a new one better..

Guys remember SMB1310J that MAN A22 that recently got into a accident which resulted by a car smashing into the middle side of the bus and 2 people died? From the pictures i see online, the damage seems quite bad, it might be scrapped😔Also remember SBS6403H that citaro which flipped over in the Bukit Batok Int accident? Its stated as Deregistered but the fate is still unknown, currently its still impounded by traffic police but once its over, it might be scrapped as well☹️

@@rgravi Yeah clearly the Citaros are not well suited in a humid country like singapore cause truth be told, the air conditioning system on the citaros is really bad. Citaros can generally be found in countries like UK, Japan, South Korea, Germany and i dont think their weather there is that humid, so the Citaros arent really fit for countries like SG

Recently one of the double decker buses caught fire on it's way to Bristol whist in service summer of last year ( thankfully both driver and passengers were evacuated quickly and safely before the fire brigade arrived ) but it was to late to save the bus as it was nothing more than a chassis with wheels ( thankfully no one was hurt )

Please try not to post accident footages online especially when bus is already parked in the bus depot which is a guarded compound. Even though the accident bus video footage maybe taken by a staff there but you will get him or her in deep trouble if the company is aware of it!

Basically, bridge strike buses tend to have this conversion, and then two B7RLEs (RU4290D and RU3720L) are converted from DD to SD.

Structural roof damage it seems, so yeah there's no way that's ever going to be repaired. Incident is similar to one of the MAN A22s that was sent to the scrapyard precisely because of structural damages.

I can understand why smrt retired this because smrt not only not have enough funds due to the lost of bus packages but also they are inexperienced in dd repair as u know they have more experience with bendies so they can rebuild the hispano habit which was burnt. But 1 more thing before in 2010 sbs9888y why can't sbs rebuild it. Even smrt can repair their skeleton hispano bit why not sbs9888y

SBS cannot find parts of step-entrance B10TL SBS9888Y when it is burnt. Even with that; I think 11 year old bus does not make sense to replace when they could at least buy B9TL WEG2 off the shelf. And SBS extends DD bus lifespans too; except for some of the VO2X.

For SMRT Buses, O405G Hispano Habit were built in 2000-2009 era, but the advent of MAN NG363F and Enviro500 no longer have a need to repair old buses.
