The nice thing is if you shoot mirrorless, AF calibration is not an issue. The Sigma Arts on my 5DIV DSLR would be very iffy with autofocus. But once I go the R the focus never missed. That's the advantage of the Canon system is that adapted lenses work just as well as native RF lenses. In fact, my Sigma Art 50 focuses twice as fast as the RF 50 1.2, and it's basically just as sharp, and cost 1/3 as much as the Canon. I saved over $2000 cdn by getting the Sigma Art 50 and it comes with a 7 year Sigma Art warranty vs only 1 year for the Canon.

You can also get an adapter and get them running on Sony mirrorless cameras. Got the 40mm f1.4 for €500, which is a steal, and I'm rocking it with a Metabones Speed Booster on my aspc Sony A6700. When I need a bit more range, I switch to the normal Metabones Smart adapter to get that apsc crop. For anyone wondering: The Viltrox 27mm f1.2 is an alternative option on aspc and very solid, but the Sigma indeed brings magic into the game and even on the speed booster is a bit sharper (not by much though). AF is solid in green mode on the adapter. The manual focus ring is amazing and the best I ever used. The Sigma 135mm f1.8 is a great option, too. PS: But yes, they are big and heavy. For now, I don't care, though. PPS: I'm not poor, but as a hobbyist, I prefer to put that money somewhere else. This combination will, however, satisfy any professional willing to carry the weight.

@@Yupthereitism I had 50 1.2 on my Sony cameras but if you want a specific look from Sigma (and colors), it's great value. RF/GM lenses are little faster in low light situation but overall - do you need that? Sigma 105 1.4 is better than Canon lenses in that range. I use RF lenses, Sigma as well because you need to choose the best lens for you (price doesn't matter). If you have one lens from Sigma/Canon, better is to have all from one brand if you want to have "the same image, color rendering".

I really love my sigmas, particularly primes on sony a7r ii and v. Beautiful rendering. Decided to standarize on sigma, as makes it easier to edit with a common feel. Have the 28 1.4, 35 2.0, 40 1.4, 45 2.8, 65 2.0, 110 2.8 and for zooms the 16-28 and 200-600. The 28mm is my favorite. I do not have any issues with autofocus with any of the sigmas, particularly with the sony a7rv. The only one not crazy about is the 16-28, while techincally good. it just does not have the colors and rendering that the primes do. The 28 and 40 arts can allow us to take full advantage of light when there (or added) to give a medium format hassy look on full frame. I find the weight of the 28 fine, but the weight of the 40 does have some hesitation to it, but glad Sigma did not compromise on it.

Hey there Luke. Thank you for your feedback on the Sigma lenses. I am in the process of figuring out which 35mm to add to my collection and having a hard time. I have an 85mm 1.4 Art lens and love it! The only downside for me is that it is heck-a-HEAVY. I do like the feel of it, at first, but after an hour of shooting it starts to get annoying. The heaviness adds a bit of stability for me and do like that. Now, I may have missed it, but why did you get rid of your Sigma lenses if you loved them so much? I have a Z8 that I am wanting to pair up with a 35mm and debating between the Sigma 35mm Art and the Nikkor 35mm 1.8. If you have any thoughts I would love your feedback.

Hey Irene! Thanks for watching. So I got rid of them because I really liked the Z lenses. That doesn't mean they are better in every way, but I didn't want to deal with adaptors primarily, and all the Z lenses are pretty light for what they are, and of course excellent image quality. I have the Z 35mm 1.8, and it's a great lens. To be honest, I think there is a little more character in the Sigma 35 1.4, but its not my main lens so I wasn't overly concerned about it. There are Sigma Z mount lenses, but 30mm not 35. So that could be interested to try. If you're in the US or Canada I'd suggest renting lenses. It's a really great way to test things out before you buy. Hope that helps!

I too don't really want to fiddle with the adapter any longer and would really love it to be lighter.

Irene I use lots of Sigma art lenses on my z8, most of them are crisp and sharp, but 85 1.4 acts, strange, blurry images from 1.4 to 2.8. Did you had any issues with your 85 on z8. What would you say about performance wide open at F 1.4?

@@hrvojematiasslebur7196 hey there...sorry for my delay. So, I have to say that the only issue I have had with my 85 is the focus point/area. It tends to focus a smidge below where I am actually putting my focal point at. After googling (which I am sure you know) I found out that I should calibrate my lens to fix this. I haven't had a chance to do that yet so I cannot tell you if it fixed anything, but hoping to do so by end of week. Other than that I haven't noticed any un-usual blurring ...I love my Sigma 85 Art. It's just a beast to carry around. I ended up purchasing the 35mm S lens (for my Z8 camera) for a recent trip to Japan. I wanted to go as light as possible. It took some beautifully sharp/crips images, but did feel that the images were a little on the flat side. Now, it could just be me being accustomed to the beautiful color the Sigma Art lens gives. Needing to play with it a bit more. I would like a 50mm and debating on which I should get...the Nikkor S or the Sigma Art? Any thoughts on that?

@@irenecolgan4449 thank you for your answer :) first to answer you question. Never used 50mm Sigma 1.4 butnI heard a lot of great stuff about that lens. I have 35 1.4 from Sigma and I love that lens(i still use it on z8). About 85mm 1.4 I do know they sometimes need calibration when used on dslr, but that should not be the case when used on z8. It takes focus completly differently and I read a lot and conclusion is there is no need fot calibration. So I sent the lens to Sigma for service to see if some glass shifted or someting. About 50mm, I just bought yesterday 50 1.8S Nikon will test it today. :)

It is not entirely clear what really made you drop them. I admit that when I got my 50 1.8S to go with the Z6ii I was surprised by the lift in quality from the optics (sharpness, edge to edge focus quality, colour depth and lack of chromatic aberrations). What was it about the Sigma that didn’t quite work with the Z camera bodies?
@lukewtcleland
@lukewtcleland Жыл бұрын
My number 1 issue was adaptors. I can't deal with that and be a wedding photographer. Second, while I really liked the sigmas, the jump in quality, especially when I used the 50 1.2 was amazing. I think while the Sigmas are great lenses, and they work well with the adaptor, you can't compare them to the new Z line in use with a Z body.

HI, I agree with you. SIgma art 50mm f1.4 is the best before Nikon launched its mirrorless camera. When I was still using DSLR (D800 & D810), it did happen to me few times this sigma lense miss focus and it did stress me a lot. After I bought Nikon Z6ii with the adapter, it focus perfectly. I guess mirroless control the focus directly from the sensor, not like DSLR that indirectly connect to the sensor before the shutter were released. Which 50mm are you using now and how do you feel compare to the SIgma 50mm art?

Yes I thought that too, when I used it the 35mm 1.4 Sigma Art, I thought it was so much faster! Nikon 50 1.2 ! I'm guessing you watched that video. But really, if the sigma 50 1.4 works well on it, that would be really great alternative, because the Nikon 1.2 is very expensive.
@philmtx3fr

The point you raise about the focus is important and not a lot said on you tube and thx for that. Then about my personal experience , Sigma art lenses are very good indeed… but very heavy pieces of glass. I loved the 35mm f1.4 but then I changed to Nikon 35mm G and find it better balanced on my d750. Perhaps with an heavier body it s better but you really must try it before buying it. For the 50mm f1.4 I am not a big fan of its bokeh but it s of course a matter of taste. On my side I prefer the one of the 58mm G. Finally the 85 f1.4 being twice heavier than Nikon G equivalent and even 200g heavier than the 105mm G… I still prefer Nikon ones. The weight is not always the price to pay to have good primes and when you see what Sigma did with its last 85mm f1.4 for mirrorless Sony E mount this must make you think. You can oppose that Nikon G fast f1.4 lenses are very expensive but you can have them in very good shape - they are built like tanks - at half the price on second market … which is the same price of the sigma when new so you have the choice. About your images , I do love your wedding high key style aven if not completely convinced by the 50mm « character » bokeh as already said :). But all are very nice and beautifully treated. Thx for sharing.
