A really soothing shabad, perfect for the present dark times! It's one of my favourite album renditions. Contemplating the horrendous sight of Guru Arjan made to sit on boiling water, and then on thick iron pan with the sand beings poured over, and yet he's singing "Tera kia meetha lage", is an epitome of courage and determination. His unwavering resolution to not to accept Islam and rather prefer a tortures and rounds of persecutions by the cruel and barbaric Mughal emperor Jahangir, is quintessence of pure devotion. I seek inspiration from Guru Arjan on his martyrdom day!

There are two perceptions of reading between the lines of this soul soothing Shabad: 1)from the ground(most common view point):Aukhi ghadi means difficult times of all sorts.In those times,one is seeking the help and protection of the Supreme Power or True Friend. 2)from the sky(uncommon view point):The sikh greeting 'Sat Sri Akal' means the Truth is beyond time.All the sufferings(Aukhi Ghadi)occurs in time.The Guru is pointing:while sitting on a hot iron plate(although the body was feeling the pain)to the state of 'no time' where there is no room for Aukhi Ghadi (please cotemplate).Once the mind through Simran and meditation attains the state of 'Sat Sri Akal' or Oneness, the suffering drops as it is only relative to time in which the body-mind appears.So, the Guru is urging to lift our consciousness to a state beyond time and one shall be liberated(tooti Jum ki fansi),free from suffering and pain.Satnam🙏
