I know that this video is a couple years old, but I am finding it useful (as Tony asked if anyone is thinking of doing saddle repair) I started tearing down a saddle for a buddy 30-ish years ago. He was a quadriplegic and was never going to use it, just wanted it to look decent. Long story short, he passed , I moved a couple of times (VT to MN to MT) and his brother contacted me to see if I wanted that saddle. I'm going to try to get it.

I have a saddle that is very dried and flaky can they be cleaned and reoiled or should I just rebuild it
@SpringfieldLeather2 жыл бұрын
With the flaking already happening, oiling and cleaning can help slow the process. But it is hard once it starts to “check”.

Thank you so much for this video. This was very helpful. What are the chances of you doing a video of re-flocking a close contact all purpose English saddle? 🤓

Denny hasn't messed with English Saddles, but maybe we can find someone around here that has and have them come in and do a video for us! :-D

Anyone can help me. I have an old saddle and all the nails are rusted where can I find new leather nails? And I put grease on it already but I heard that use water to flex it. How do I remove grease from a saddle?

I have a civil war era mcclellan saddle, it is missing stirrup straps etcetera. the seat and tree look to be good. Are they worth repairing
@kevinhealy34794 жыл бұрын
Also I only have one fender. Can I use the one fender to make another? How would I make the leather look old?
@SpringfieldLeather4 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, the worth repairing is really up to you and if you want to take it on. There does seem to be quite a few of those saddles still around today. You can use the fender you have to make a new one for the other side. Just flip it over so the pattern is reversed for the other side. As far as making it look old...time seems to be the best way...other than throwing it around in the dirt and staining it. ;)

The skirt to my saddle ripped, how hard and what would a rough estimate be of how much it would cost to fix the skirt?
@SpringfieldLeather3 жыл бұрын
It would be hard to tell without a picture. To see if it can be fixed or needs something more.

You guys are bent over that saddle and it's no wonder your back hurts. The height of the stand is wrong for either working on it sitting down or standing up. I could build you a stand that you could get your feet under that would turn like a lazy Susan if you stepped on a foot pedal and not turn if you didn't stand on the peddle. Then you wouldn't be all crippled like an orangutan.

Let us know if you need the address to mail it to us! The saddle stand we are using pre dates the 80s. we don't do saddle repair here. We just wanted to give some helpful tips and a video showing it is not that scary. But the key to success is having the right tools and a saddle stand like you mention would be perfect!
