Great review. I especially appreciated the honesty about the looks. No one else did that. I actually ordered one a few hours ago. I think I made a good choice. And after seeing your vid I won’t be surprised by the thickness of the back. You’re right, the pics when ordering didn’t show that. Thanks

Yep great seats, I brought the explorer with the back rest, measure is as per your video, 25. 5/8 '' high new

Thank you for posting this! There are not a lot of reviews for these Explorer seats. I agree about the ugly height for the passenger portion and how Saddlemen does not show that part in any pics. It truly does look ugly from the back and the sides (but at least your passenger will be happy).

Yeah I'm not a massive fan but doesn't look too bad when the luggage rack is attached

Thinking about buying an explorer RS for my 2016 heritage softail. Same thing but has the pillow top look. I hope it keeps that sitting down IN the bike feeling you get on a softail. But having had some back surgeries I really need the comfort of a backrest

Mustang have a good solo seat with backrest. I have a video where I reviewed one if you have a look at my channel . Also very comfortable

G'day mate. I have just recently taken the sportglide for a test run and I fell in love with it!! Could not believe the handling and comfort of this bike. I'm 6'2'108kg's on a good day and this bike fitted me perfectly. Harleys have certainly improved their bikes over the years and now I have a tough choice to make very very shortly. Sportglide or Heritage classic? The heritage is pure nostalgia and simplicity (do not need the radio, nav etc), whereas the Sportglide is like a Swiss army knife in that you can change the look and style of the bike in a number of ways. Whichever bike I choose, I will certainly be changing out the stock seat for this type of seat purely for the increased comfort level. Bit of a shame that the Sportglide has a one piece seat set-up as I am a solo rider that likes to tour. Dump the pillion seat and install a rack in its place. We shall see, and i will look further into it. Thanks so much for the information mate, really appreciate it.

Great review, thank you. I was thinking of buying the explorer seat for my Street Bob but had no idea the pillion pad is that thick. All the pictures show a much thinner version. Not sure what to do now. Might keep the standard seat, as my Mrs finds it uncomfortable, and that might be enough to keep her off the bike. 🙂

Haha good strategy 🤣 the Step Up seat might be a good option have a look at it.. the back pad is not as thick

Thank you for this great explanation. It will help many people to make the decision. I visited the saddleman website myself and found the images distorted mainly in relation to the passenger seat.
@RidesForDays3 жыл бұрын
Yeah a more accurate image would help the buyer. The image itself that I saw was not on the Saddlemen website though. Not sure if their image was the same.

It'll be hard to find a seat as comfortable, that compliments the lines of your bike so well. You might want to consider having the passenger pad reshaped to a fast back style. Just a thought.
@RidesForDays2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've thought about getting the pillion part of the seat reshaped....it beats buying a new one...the comfort of this seat is now a 10/10 no word of a lie

I order this seat with the rider backrest and wait for some months now. The original seat is not bad but i do need a support for my back! I have also the original sissybar with rack so the look of the thick pillion hopefully is not that bad! ……i hope i can post my distance to the floor when new?!
@RidesForDays3 жыл бұрын
I have my luggage rack on the bike pretty much all the time so they kinda compliment each other. It is definitely a comfortable seat after having ridden many ks on it. And on the flip side it looks like a damn good pillion seat!!
@teapotwood28172 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing this mate. funny how Saddlemen must know the looks are off as the pictures are cropped. my concern is with the Harley sissy bar (normal height holdfast ) fitted. because of thickness of pillion pad, would it make the backrest, more of a bum stop than sit in the small of your back?
@RidesForDays2 жыл бұрын
It quite possibly could mate yes...I guess it just depends how low the sissy bar is in the first place....you might get away with it
@thepieman27423 жыл бұрын
I’m getting one! But it’s not easy to order now. COVID makes it difficult. Also there’s updates on Saddleman descriptions etc. I’m in Canada by the way.. 2019 Sportsglide.

Let me kniw the seat height when you install it!!

That was my biggest concerns on how thick that seat would be when on the bike. It does look a bit odd. Thanks for the follow up review.
@RidesForDays3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm not sure what to make of it. It's probably a great pillion seat which at the end of the day is the purpose of it...i just don't like the look of it.

Ha, I was just thinking yesterday that you should be almost ready to put out your long term review of the seat. I have been waiting for it... Thanks mutely for the info. I think this will be the next major purchase for my Sport Glide. I don't mind the thicker rear seat, but I do wonder how it will fit again the shorty stock HD sissy bar I have. Might have to get a different taller sissy bar down the road.

Hey man what is the height of those risers? N thanx man I m definitely ordering explore ls, passenger seat looks big but comfy,
@RidesForDays3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's not a plush seat but very comfy especially when broken in. Risers are 6 inch pull back risers
@knightalumni3 жыл бұрын
Did you find the seat pushed you a little bit forward? I’m a 6 footer, and I feel just a tad stretched in my lower back reaching for the handle bars, and I have a pretty long wing span. I’m kinda hoping the seat would push me forward just a fuzz. I also have a Sport Glide...
@RidesForDays3 жыл бұрын
If anything there would be a push forward not a huge amount. If you are feeling stretched reaching for the handlebars you need to look at pull back risers ...check out my risers video they will help you out a lot
@knightalumni3 жыл бұрын
Just put my Saddlemen Explorer LS with the driver backrest on this evening. Seat height is 25 1/4” from the intersection of the back support and the seating area measured from the top of the seam to the floor. I think you measured 25”. No pull back risers yet. Wanted to try the seat first. Did the gap at the front of the seat and the tank close down over time? I can totally see the screw and the tank welds on my fresh install.
@RidesForDays3 жыл бұрын
Seat fitted perfectly with no gap at the front...you've had problems with it?
@knightalumni3 жыл бұрын
@@RidesForDays yes, there’s a big gap in the front. It’s pretty common with this seat apparently.

@@knightalumni my seat must be shaped differently to yours as I don't have a back rest option for it...that would be annoying though
