In July 2017 I attempted the SaddleSore 1000 from the Iron Butt Association on My Triumph Street Scrambler. Riding from Nashville down to New Orleans and back.
Check out the SaddleSore 1000 and other rides from the IBA.

Good glimpse of the Street Scrambler on the highway. Doesn't look bad at all. Loved the finish.

Mark Heinig thanks! Yeah it does fine on a highway. Sure a touring bike would be more comfortable, but not as fun!

Hopefully you got all your paperwork turned in and approved for the SS1K. Did my first one the end of August. I found waiting for the certificate was much harder than doing the ride.

I'm around the same. 5'11" OR 1.8 m. Best to throw your leg over one to see how you feel on it. My inseam is around 33". I don't feel too tall for the Street Scrambler, but now I have the Scrambler 1200 and I do like the taller bike.

Please tell me how is it gong over 80/90 MPH? Planning Road trip and looking into getting new 2022 Street Scrambler, is vibration crazy on a freeway or does it feel comfortable riding longer ride over 90MPH? Thank you! :)
@ScramblerStories
@ScramblerStories 3 жыл бұрын
No issues for me, but I guess it depends on what you're used to. If coming from a three or four cylinder bike, you might find the vibration noticeable. If you're coming from a single or something, it'll seem super smooth. However the wind will beat you up over long distances when traveling 80mph+. You can get some wind protection, but ultimately it's a naked bike. The wind during highway speeds is not going to be your friend. Hasn't stopped me from traveling on the highway, just something to consider. Not sure how familiar you are with this channel, but I've taken my Street Scrambler all over the US. 50,000+ miles, 46 US states, Canada, off-roading, etc. And the 22' model has more power than my 17'!

@@ScramblerStories , yes! Just found your channel about a week ago and have been following since. Love all your stories and honest reviews. Thank you so much on your response. Decided to go for 2019 and invest additional money into exhaust, windshield and few more aftermarket additions ( very similar to your 900). I am upgrading from 400cc Scrambler Ducati so it will be a change right away! I was taking my 400cc all over CA - 101, 405 freeway, riding 80/90, so ready for wind and if vibrations is half of what my Ducati had, I will be very happy. :) Thank you one more time.

@@dijanajoo You are absolutely welcomed. I haven't ridden the 400cc Scrambler from Ducati, but the Triumph will probably be really smooth compared to it. Just make sure any accessories you put on aren't loose, otherwise they can cause their own vibrations. Cheers!

Long-ass ride for a naked bike! I've done around 700 in a day on my Bonnie ('02 T100), it has upgraded suspension (Race-Tech Cartridge Emulators and springs, totally transforms the front-end feel, highly recommend it if you have a non-cartridge fork; also has Ohlins shocks). It's much easier on my Daytona (Race-Tech suspension front and rear, Corbin saddle, Zero Gravity double-bubble windscreen, Heli Bars), wind protection makes a hell of a difference! I've ridden it DC-Nashville in around 13 hours. Oddly enough, though, my longest-ever one-day ride was way back before there was such a thing as the Iron Butt; Marshfield, MO to Albuquerque, around 20 hours, on my old ('73) Yamaha TX500 (still have that one too). On the return trip I rode from Ft. Smith, AR to DC, but that was over 24 hours (more like 32). The things you can get away with when you're young!

Indeed it was. Done a bit too many long rides like this now. Might be time for a Tiger! I'm going to be changing out my suspension soon. Front and rear aren't currently stock, but I'm not too happy with them.

Nice bike. Did they approve your ride? When I did mine, I waited 4 months before receiving my packet. I waited until then to put up my video so I could show the patch, etc. Y'all be safe, don't let the Wuhan monster bite ya.

@@ScramblerStories I know what you mean. I have done a bunch of really long rides. Last year, after finishing a roughly 5,000 mile ride, I had an IBA member tell me that "without the approval and acceptance of the IBA, it is nothing but a long ride. It is only when you receive your paperwork that you can say that you have completed an IBA ride." I agreed, that's why I did mine and documented every little detail so they would know I actually did it. I have met a lot of people that made a certain ride, but were not accepted as one of us because of something they left out, etc. You should send it all in and get the actual recognition, be a member. Besides, if y'all look at the end of my SS 1000 video, you can see the patch they give is pretty cool. They give a pin, some stickers, etc, too. I am planing on doing a Bun Burner 1500 this August, if things work out for it to happen. Y'all ride safe.

Dear biker, I m very interested in this bike, I would like to know Does Exhaust hot when ride in the traffic?
@ScramblerStories
@ScramblerStories 4 жыл бұрын
In traffic in the summertime it was noticeable but bearable. I have the Vance and Hines 2 into 1 exhaust currently, and despite not having a cat it's actually hotter. I think mainly because the stock heat shield is superior (two layers) versus the Vance & Hines heat shield (one layer). For context, I keep my legged tight up against the heat shield.

At the moment, I am on my second set of stock tires. Metzeler Tourances. They're great with long thread life, great on the pavement and in rain, and just fine for simple dirt roads. Going to be trying Karoos next for some more aggressive dirt riding.

Good ride man! Scrambler keeps on Scrambling! Noticed you have not had the screen at the time, so obviously that made a difference in fatigue. I've run a USB cable from under my seat neatly with the other cables to the top of my handlebars to charge my phone on the RAM Mount. Used a latex glove and rubber tape to weather proof the usb cable & socket connection under my seat, so I can leave the cable permanently plugged in.

Smart. I need to do something like that. I've held off on using my phone so far, but it would be useful for my other electronics. How do you like that RAM mount?

What kind of maintenance do you do for such trips? Do you lubricate the chain at a gas station for example?
@ScramblerStories
@ScramblerStories 4 жыл бұрын
I cleaned it and lubed it I think once on this trip. Plus before and after. More importantly, I eventually got a DID chain and it can take a lot more without care. I went from Fairbanks to Deadhorse and back without cleaning or lubing (there was no point due to the mud/dirt) and it was fine. Much better chain than stock.

How was in a scrambler? Was not very tired ?? I'm tempted to do it and also in a scrambler, but I'm worried that the bike is not suitable for the distance, in terms of comfort.
@ScramblerStories
@ScramblerStories 5 жыл бұрын
It's definitely doable pending your ability to endure a little discomfort. It's not as suited as an ADV bike or a Goldwing. But if you setup a bag to have some back support, and maybe an airhawk on the seat then it wouldn't be too bad.

Planning on doing the ride with a Triumph Bonneville. Any advice?
@ScramblerStories
@ScramblerStories 4 жыл бұрын
Make sure your seat is either really comfortable, or you have some kind of added seat pad. It wouldn't hurt to have a back rest either, so if you need to bring anything, opt for a bag strapped to your seat you can lean back against. Otherwise some tunes or podcasts if you don't like being in your head on the highway. I'm a thinker/daydreamer, so that's not a issue for me. Try to be quick at your stops for gas. They can take up more time than you imagine. Especially on a Triumph, where often people want to talk to you about the bike. Otherwise it's not bad, you got this!

@@ScramblerStories I got the same bike and next year intend to travel from UK - Poland, maybe I’ll try and do it one hit, or maybe not, any tips? 😀👍🏼
@ScramblerStories
@ScramblerStories 3 жыл бұрын
@@310765 If you're using a bench seat with luggage strapped to the back, make sure you leave enough room to scoot around a little. I've made the mistake of putting so much luggage on I was sitting at the very front of the bench seat, which is the thinnest and least comfortable spot. Otherwise anything you can do to make yourself more comfortable, do it. Stretch during stops, a positive attitude, and it won't be an issue. Also taking your time and not doing long days is 100% more enjoyable. I just did some 900+ straight shots recently, cause I had to, but I now try to keep it to under 500 miles a day. 200-300 is really nice, time to do do things other than flying down the motorway.

something about paying someone else to make your ride "official" is just stupid. I had buddies that did this but it didn't count because the didn't get one receipt or there was a possible variance in their route or something. Even though both their GPS and Trip-meters(which they took pics of with time stamps) said otherwise. Thanks for the fee sorry try again maybe next time. IF you rode it it's official make and print out your own certifications f your REAAAAALY need one.

At the time of this video I had a Sena 10s. Later I got a Sena 10C, both work great for communication. Sometimes Caitlyn would call me while I riding on the highway in my Bell Moto-3, and despite that helmet being open she didn't hear any wind noise, so it does the job. Been on many phone calls actually where no one could tell I was riding the bike.

How you liking that jacket? Hows the quality of it?
@ScramblerStories
@ScramblerStories 6 жыл бұрын
The jacket is great. Originally not the style I was going to get, but Caitlyn pointed it out while at a dealer and I liked it. Put it on and it was comfortable and felt great. Quality has been good, well used in the last 14 months that I have had it and holding up great. Besides elbow and shoulders, it has a full back protector. All the armor is D30, so comfortable. Jacket is heavy and no doubt would be fine in a slide. Not the easiest to clean bugs off after long distance rides though.
