Sadiq Khan secures historic third term as London mayor after facing ‘Islamophobic campaign’ by rival

London’s Labour mayor, Sadiq Khan, has secured a historic third term on Saturday with a comfortable margin over his rival Susan Hall, who had been accused of running an “Islamophobic campaign” against him.
Khan, who became the first Muslim mayor of a western capital in 2016, was one of the first voices within the Labour Party to support calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, defying Labour leader Keir Starmer.
While some Labour candidates in England saw a significant loss in Muslim votes due to the Labour Party’s approach to the war on Gaza, Khan seems to have maintained the support of London’s Muslim community.
