I really like how everyone’s bikes are clean and shiny (my slight OCD). I ride with a group of cyclist and their bikes are filthy, they squeak, grind and crunch…I wince every time I have to ride with them and pray their bikes hold up long enough to finish the ride. Great video, really enjoyed it.

Man this really takes me back. I lived in Belmont Shore 1980-84. I would do the round trip to Laguna Beach whenever I had the time. Always felt lucky to be able to do that on a sunny winter day. BTW, I have never seen a group ride as big as that! Edit: also, I remember fighting the headwind on the way back home was brutal.

Plenty of week day rides in OC here's a few Coffee Crew Tues/Thurs every week, wheels down at 6:15 meet at campus/university - reasonably spicy WTR - saturday ride 60 miles - good for people new to group dynamics, avg 20 mph except for 2 sprint points 8:15 at 560 wald in irvine Como St - Sunday morning 32 miles (short loop) 44 miles (long loop). 8 AM at tustin marketplace - fastest ride in OC typically (same group of guys from coffee crew, only bigger and faster) Plenty of others but these are the more regular ones I do (plenty of Saturday rides to choose from on Saturday mornings. As the season starts up and both Majestic and CBR are on alternating weeks on Sundays you'll see variable numbers at Como.

Group rides of this size would not really be possible here in Ireland, or I think in most of Europe. The roads just aren't wide enough. The scenery and small lanes here compensate in other ways though :)

I have watched you rides and I have seen your rides with the legion riders. I know from watching you over a few years that you are not one who would seek to perpetuate the racial division that the sport of cycling has admitted and is in the initial stages of countering. Alas this video does not do much to uphold that mission. It is not your sole duty to make amends for the fact that you are in California with a single person of colour riding in such a large bunch of riders. Just goes to show how far cycling has to go before it becomes sport for all to be comfortable doing. Keep doing what you are doing and the others may catch you up.
