That was me hydro-dipping the Mares backplate at Lake Hickory Scuba. It was actually my son's for his birthday. It's holding up awesome. Out three coats of primer on first (white), then hydro-dipped and put 3-4 coats of clear coat. Still looks like the day we did it.

If a solid color backplate is the desired look powder-coating for stainless; powder-coating or anodizing for Al. Both will last longer but you’ll need to find a shop.

Going to have to disagree with the first question. If an air diver has to switch to nitrox from a buddy there is no issue at all. They must be above MOD or the buddy would already be in trouble. O2 loading shouldn’t be an issue at all. The nitrox diver bailing out to air is a bigger deal. They would have a higher nitrogen load. A lot of the tips given in the answer are more applicable on this side unless you can has switch on your computer.
@OrenNoah4 жыл бұрын
Right. This advice was crazy wrong. If your computer thinks you're on air and you're using nitrox, you've just made a safer dive, assuming that you didn't go into deco per your computer using the air algorithm. You should just safely ascend, per your computer, and thank your buddy for saving your life. The only problem that could arise would be from not being able to track your oxygen exposure, but if you're not diving nitrox for the next few dives, it wouldn't matter a bit. In fact, MANY experts advise using nitrox and diving with air settings (as long as you respect your Maximum Operating Depth) for an extra margin of safety. It's nuts to recommend that that diver stay out of the water for a day or two.

Just a quick reply to Tony Warfields question on how to don and doff a BP&W.... if you have to take a BP&W off in the water (say before you are getting back into a RIB) slide one hand through one of the shoulder straps first, then release the waist belt / crotch strap. The first time I tried to take my BP&W off in the water I opened the waist belt first and this made the wing ride up very high on my shoulders.
@OrenNoah4 жыл бұрын
@ Boston M. If you're looking for a cold water and a travel/warm water BP/W, you don't want to use the same wing for both. Your cold water wing will need to have a lot more lift than your warm water wing. E.g., my cold water single wing is a 40 pound and my warm water single wing is only an 18 pound.

1 thigh pocket on my Drysuit what should I prioritise putting in it? Thanks
@timgosling61894 жыл бұрын
The common answer is your DSMB(s) and finger spools. If you have a right thigh pocket too, that's where you put your spare mask, spare DSMB and spool. One useful thing is to tie a loop of bungee through the D-ring in the pocket. Everything you put in there can then be bolt-snapped onto the bungee. When you pull something out it then stays clipped to you until you release it. In fact you can pull everything out, pick what you want and stuff the rest back without worrying about anything getting lost.

Hi Mark, I just got my first BPW set up, I was wondering is there anything I can do to protect my wetsuit over the shoulders from the webbing because I'm scared that it will ruin the stitching over my shoulders. Cheers

Hi Mark, followed you from simply scuba to your private channel. Like your videos a lot. I have a question maybe you could help. Have you heard a dive computer brand called "RATIO". It has several lines and the more advanced line is called "IX3M pro tech". Just wondering if you could please do a review of this computer and this series ? Thank you~

Hi Mark, great to see you back on KZbin! I'd have a question for your next Q&A (2nd try): I'm considering buying my first set of regulators. I'll also be diving in colder water, so this is a factor to consider (need two first stages). A shop near by sells the complete sets from Dive Rite including two XT1 and two XT2. What is your opinion on this brand as well as these specific models? Is the brand Dive Rite popular around the world (in case I neeed to get something fixed while on holiday)? Thanks a lot, Fabian
@bloodymarvelous47902 жыл бұрын
To be fair, if you're switching to an octo with Nitrox, you're gonna be at a safe depth for Nitrox, otherwise the Nitrox diver wouldn't be at the same depth as you are. Nitrox also would only reduce your required surface time since there's less nitrogen in the mix. The other way around, switching from Nitrox to Air, it's safest to just end the dive there if you're not able to switch your computer back to Air, so you're safe with your surface time.

Hi, good video. How do you deal with your beard ( moustache ) and dive mask ? Thanks :)
@SafeDiving4 жыл бұрын
It's not a huge issue, I have a few tips to help in the video below. You can get a little water in your mask, but with good airway control it's not a big issue. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaWqfaCpmrVmq9E It only becomes a problem when you dive CCR, then you have to choose between the two...

Love the show and am glad you are keeping it up after Simply Scuba shut down. So here's a question for you: I am a fairly new diver ( AWOD ) with around 30 dives in my logbook over the last 18 months . I've picked up the basics-- wetsuit, fins, Mask(s) and a computer I like -- and now I'm thinking about getting a set of regs before a diving holiday I hope to take to Italy in the fall. My question is at what point do you think someone should start looking into investing in a set of regs? And how much cash do you think a beginning rec diver should invest? I dive around a day a month during the season here in Germany (so cold water all the way down) and have been doing a week diving holiday each year which I hope to keep up. Thanks! And Good Viz!

Q&A for next Show: Hi mark, could you please tell me why putting our goggles on the forehead when at the surface is considered as a "pannicked diver". This is the UTMOST annoying thing from my open and advanced diver course...Can i just ignore the instructor that told me that and continue my habit?
@SafeDiving4 жыл бұрын
Will do. Brace yourself for a lot of divers complaining that you called them goggles... But of all of the tell-tale signs of a panicked diver, mask on the forehead has never been one for me. The best reason to not leave it there is that if a wave hits you head on it can push your mask off and you loose it.
@chromexfz09914 жыл бұрын
@@SafeDiving sorry for calling this googles... My primary language is french... :P Also why are people mad for calling it goggles?
@SafeDiving4 жыл бұрын
Ah, your English is better than my French. Goggles are what a swimmer wears, with no nose pocket. Some divers don't like it when you call them goggles...
@timgosling61894 жыл бұрын
It's more a sign of inexperience or poor training than panic. The thing is that if it's round your neck when not in use it won't get dislodged and lost if a wave or you or some other diver knocks it. If you want people to look at you as a well-trained reliable buddy, don't park it on your forehead.

@ Oren Noah 40 lbs for a cold water single wing?! I use a 28 lbs wing for cold water single diving, and that’s plenty enough. I’m 183cm and 82 kg, dive in water reaching at best 15C on the surface and 4-5C on the bottom in summer time; 2c on the surface in winter, with a semi dry or a 7mm for autumn spring and summer and a dry suit for late autumn, winter and early spring, and I have enough lift with a 28lbs wing for single diving (XDeep ZEOS 28)
