Internet Explorer 9 is actually the longest supported Browser Version ever released. It is still getting updates on Server 2008 SP2 with ESU till 01/23. So it had a lifespan of 12 years (2011-2023)

I think windows 7 and vista are waaaaaay better than windows 10. I have had windows 10 for about 5 or 6 years and don't enjoy them at all. I'd much rather go back to windows vista. I am soon getting a windows vista desktop or laptop soon. I'm finished with windows 10.

You should’ve also made mention of vulnerabilities that have been realized in the past 5 or so years since Vista’s EOL, antiviruses can help thwart an incoming attack as a result of abusing such open vulnerabilities.

You make an excellent point. That's what the section about the user account addresses. A majority of new vulnerabilities found over the past 5 years can only be exploited from an account with administrator privileges.

Great video, love your channel! I am that kind of guy who says that an antivirus isn’t needed if you know what you’re doing, but on my main computer if I didn’t have windows defender I would still install an antivirus (but not on Linux). Even though I’m “that kind of a guy”, I still think it’s needed to at least have some basic protection, especially on an end of life os. I’m waiting for a guide for windows 8 :)

@cannedbeverage76872 жыл бұрын
@@adventuresinnostalgia Well, the video game Midnight Club 2 is the one that has this problem. With DEP on, the game quits to desktop when attempting to load into gameplay, with DEP exclusion the game gets stuck in an infinite loading loop, without DEP it works normally. If one game/program has problems, there are bound to be others.

I really don't consider openoffice a better alternative to office, especially 2007/2010 (really good releases). If i am to keep using vista, i don't think i'll ever connect it to the internet; in this case getting to activate the os in the present day might be the biggest challenge. I see what you're saying. If you view this through the lens of security, applying the updates yourself is safer than trusting an installation disc image that a KZbinr made. Not that there would be malicious intent, the problem is more not knowing exactly what was modified on the disc image.
@billg7205 Жыл бұрын
@@adventuresinnostalgia Yeah I'd have to pass on that. You never know. If I remember correctly, trusted software donors on CNET had the ability to keep updating their donor files. Could never understand that one. An upload would get good ratings, and then eventually the developer would go rogue, loading with a new version with exploits. Not trusting any independent developer, unless maybe they're my neighbor.

In my humble opinion there is not so much reason to use Vista, 7, XP when you can instead use latest one and make it to look exactly like those. Just make USB installation with Rufus, remove modern store apps that you dont like and put on StartIsBack. All legal, safe and easy to do. And you can still unlock latest win 11 with win 7 key or buy one for 5-10$.
