SafeSky, free traffic information on your mobile

SafeSky offers free aggregated traffic via your mobile or tablet. The premium version also enables that traffic to be displayed on your navigation app too.

Seems like an awesome safety addition for gliders, handglides and paramotors. I've been looking for something like this. I think the limitation of cell towers range don't really hinder this much because most NON- transponder / ADS-B aircraft are "low flying" ultras, gliders etc that are with in cell range. If you fly higher and are above cell range you are above the "low flying Skysafe" user. Once at the same altitude you will get the traffic information about them. Of course it's not prefect, but this is nicely bridging that gap between ultralights / gliders vs transponder aircraft.

I wasn't very impressed with SS, having subscribed to the Premium version. I didn't get what I'd paid for, and complained. Subsequently, and in an effort to resolve the difficulties, Tristan has been most proactive and we are continuing to work together to resolve them. I'm only a "normal" GA pilot in the UK, but he and his team have been very positive in their reaction to my criticisms and have responded very well. We are solving a lot of them, gradually. This technology is clearly subject to a lot of external influences - not least of which is "Operator Error" - and I've suggested that a proper on-line manual might go a loooonnng way to resolving some of the questions. In the meantime, I'm sticking with the programme. It can't be a Bad Thing, even in its present form.

Above about 2000' I get no mobile reception in the UK so no comms. Until we get mobile everywhere this app is pretty useless.

It's free, so worth giving a go? nI was surprised at the extent of the coverage.

@FLYER so is whatthreewords and the holes and problems in that app are epic. My concern is people becoming complacent and relying on a system that is only providing partial information. It's like being a little bit pregnant.

Well, not that many airfields in the UK are above 2000ft AGL or? So, yeah, perhaps for enroute flying it could be limited, but at least when you depart and arrive you´d be getting some visibility - that you might not otherwise have. Some is better than nothing, in my opinion.

Humm, using 4G/5G or Bluetooth 5 I wonder. The drone world is having Remote ID enforced, manned aviators should fit the same or ADSB. If this is using cell data it won't be great. Ah, the chap said it only 80% of traffic is seen. I can't see regulators thinking this is a good thing.
