momgenerations... Safety Features for Teens in the Chevy Traverse
Anyone else have teen drivers? It’s a whole new world as a parent, isn’t it? #sponsored This is the 1st back to school season where I’ve had “help” behind the wheel. William has his license and Alex will be getting his permit in 2 weeks! Someone pinch me.
With school back, it means more traffic from cars, busses, pedestrians & kids on bikes. According to a recent survey commissioned by Chevy, 61% agree that with fewer people on the road last year, they were able to drive more carefree. Now with drivers sharing the road, it’s so important to exercise extra caution, especially in school zones because according to that same survey, 73% of parents have noticed more aggravated drivers on the road since the pandemic.
As our teens are getting behind the wheel, it’s so important to make sure that they're being smart and safe on the road. One of the best things you can do with your teen is to familiarize them with your car’s safety features. If your vehicle has a backup camera, make sure it’s being utilized. Many vehicles, like the Chevy Traverse (which I got to test drive) offer multiple safety features to assist while backing up. The Surround Vision in the Traverse uses multiple cameras to display an overhead image of the area around your vehicle.
Make sure you’re having conversations with your teen about safe driving. It’s scary to note that the #1 cause of death among teens (ages 15-18) in the U.S. is motor vehicle crashes. This is especially worrisome when you know your teen hasn’t had enough practice on the road. According to the survey 61% of parents are more concerned when their child drives without an adult due to lack of practice during the pandemic. That’s why conversations about safe driving are crucial.
There are also incredible technology advances in cars today. Chevy has their Teen Driver Technology which allows parents to set speed alerts, volume limits, and track their teen’s driving performance with a digital report card. That extra peace of mind is priceless. My favorite safety feature is the Buckle to Drive because it won’t allow the driver to shift out of park without buckling up. There’s also Lane Keep Assist & Forward Collision Alert, all created to keep everyone safe on the road.
