Have my first jump Saturday. This has helped me a lot. They never mentioned stalling in my first solo class at all! Thank you!

Thanks a million, Brian. Very nicely done and I REALLY hope there will be many more of these to come. I can't get too much of good advice like this!!

For those interested in the finer points of the stall discussion, it turns out that the low wing stalls first only in a descent. In a climb, the high wing stalls first, due to its higher angle of attack. Interesting to note, but most of the time on ram air canopies, the low wing stalls first.

Brian, I fly a Jedei Sweptwing 136. I have never stalled this canopy in the air, but done lots of swoops. I find this wing to be so forgiving...always seems to generate lift at the right moment...any particular tips on stalling (at altitude)? I think I would have to wrap toggles to get this to stall... thanks, Jeff Tennyson

wow. this guys smart. I haven't experimented with any of this stuff personally (yet) - still in AFF... but the physics make sense, and he really does a great job conveying the responses and mechanics of the canopy. It helps to take the fear out of trying new inputs, stalling!, pulling on your risers for the first time, etc. Yea, I'm a noob, but ya gotta learn somehow. And mastering your canopy is important dammit!

So by practicing stalling I can make my landings a lot easier? I recently moved to a 150 and I've been having trouble with my landings.

I actually enjoy a good hard stall - flying backwards is pretty dang cool, but *only* with plenty of altitude!

Valuable information! But 10 minutes with that background noise gets annoying! Maybe somewhere more silent next time? Just a thought ;)
