When Cate said she fell in love with Rooney. The seriousness in her voice and the look on her face. The audience laughed but Cate was very serious. I found it interesting that she did not refer to Rooney as Therese and did not refer to herself as Carol but as Cate. I'm not one to ship people but... these two definitely have something special.

@@mlw9195 well initially carol is in the eyes of therese. she catches her attention and is someone charming; very much piqueing her interest. this is new to therese, as suggested by moments such as the conversation where she asks richard if he's ever been in love with a boy, and she's also ever curious about carol, e.g the I Want To Ask You Things scene. by the end of the movie though therese has grown and learns what she wants, in contrast to the car scene ("i don't know what i want, how can i when all i do is say yes to everything") for eg. this growth can be shown by how she rejects carol's appartment offer. upon recognising her desires and her hurt and how things affect her, therese is now in a more self-aware place with a clearer perspective of carol, too. this is remarkable and easy to observe both by the audience and by carol herself, again with how she rejects carol's offers. and the whole ending conversation between them, including carol's observations of how therese seems as though she's suddenly blossomed. i suppose therese's maturing and transformation is a key theme and can draw attention, therefore making it possible for her to be viewed significantly, moreso than when she was just an everyday girl idolising a woman walking into her store.

2:03 - 2:38 This part of the conversation is full of nuances. Cate starts telling us about one of her favorite scenes in the film in third person ("last moment with Rooney") but as she goes deeper into her explanation and evokes that moment, her face lights up and she addresses her directly (and suddenly you're utterly transformed). Her excitement increases rapidly and reaches its peak when she briefly looks at her and sort of quietly confesses her infatuation. She was genuinely impressed by Rooney's performance. Cate even sighs right before and after saying her "I mean, I fell in love with you" line.

@winterhug43319 жыл бұрын
+FluxionJunction - I think Cate and Rooney do have mutual feelings for each other. Cate says she fell in love with Rooney. Of course Rooney's face lights up like a Christmas tree whenever she looks at Cate. Her love for Cate is just gushing out. I believe they will always have a special place in each others hearts because of the film Carol. Someone asked is it a real thing for two people to fall in love on set. I said of course, just look at Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts and the camera man, Leanne Rimes and Eddie Cibrian. Then there is Kristen Stewart and the producer guy. Families and relationships get busted up and things get messy. So many Twilight fans stop liking Kristen Stewart for breaking Robert Pattison's heart. I believe Cate and Rooney are professional enough to leave their feels on set, just like most actresses and actors do. They do have some AMAZING chemistry though..

24:05 I enjoy every interview Cate, Rooney, and Todd Haynes did during Carol promotions, and somehow to me Cate is way charismatic and revealed herself more in those interviews and profound discussion about the behind scene efforts. Rooney is genuine to herself in those public promotions as well as in the film. Yeah, I kindda feel that Cate is a bit too witty, sophisticated in the acting of Carol compared to Rooney's direct, uncovered, and heartbreaking passionate acting, well, maybe it was not acting at all. So sad Cate has many concerns about the real world to bear. It's my own feeling that she kindda kept her true feelings on the " That's that. I love you" dinner table scene, and the last long gaze scene between Carol and Therese. And the cigarette scene with Abby in which Carol kept her mind on the daughter but not a bit of Theresa is also very weird. Ok, obviously a heavily addicted shipper now. Anyway, Cate reveals more of her true feelings to Rooney in real life than Carol to Theresa in the film. Fabulous relationship/friendship+. Still deeply love this legendary couple.

hmmmmm......I mean Mrs. Blanchett seems kinda tired and she did mention being jet legged (I've seen other interviews while she was jet legged & its a bit different ) but like..she kinda hides away or looks down most times when Mrs. Mara speaks and visa versa kinda, so defintely I could assume this film impacted both of them in a special way...I'm not sure if its a personal impact, it almost seems like it though . Ive heard them both speak about love etc but its warmer and really heartfelt, maybe it's the story itself because its more realistic than the "usual" movie romance films they've both been in, but who knows. Not going to lie, I wish that there was something special happening between Mrs. Blanchett & Mrs. Mara but unfortunately and realistically I think their connection was more in the story telling and their same kinda views of what love is (Them portraying gay characters in this love story was just a HUGE bonus)....Plus, I'm betting their both comfortable and sure of who they are, sexually etc. Kinda late on this Carol - Blanchett X Mara ship BUT better late than never (: Film's over all incredible. Who has repeatedly watched the bit when Cate says she fell in love with Rooney? 😂It's the most 'rewatched' bit according to the scroll graph! Her body language in the moments following are interesting, and unlike Cate's usual demeanour during interviews where she is usually very reserved with her facial expressions, a little playful and focussed (and I've watched A LOT of them on KZbin). But here, after her fabulous comment, she purses her lips together strongly, fiddles and re-ties her hair then crosses her legs. Studying psychology and having always been very perceptive to people's unspoken feelings (childhood trauma experiences), these are all signs of stress, nerves and of hiding something/avoidance.

Well Carol as a movie brings forth the best and the worst concerning the "control of sexuality" (to remind Foucault). Having that film excluded from best film/director category reminds that. Patricia Higmsmith from her Grave gives a reason why when she says somewhere in the book that in the Trial (like in the Nominees) men gave weird looks to Carol feeling sorry! for her because "such a pretty woman didnt want men". So this vagina liberation seems to promote (with no reason and with every reason) an inner fear. In comparison, and despite the fact i like Di Caprio as a "figure" Academy celebrates a film (ONE MORE!!) were white men try to control nature, the big vagina presenting themselves as the innocent victims!. Sorry i go with the bear! In anthropological terms this is the definition of macho mentality! In this planet and industry Carol and Todd Haynnes were left outside from best picture/director category. Is not as important as the refugee crisis and the rise of neofasism (in its western, neonazi, or in its midleeastern, tzihandists, version)is BUT indicates that we go back to, or remain deep into, very conservative times. And that the force to cannibalise the "Other" (in colour, gender, class religion you name it) is may ritualised, may hidden behind complicated gestures, costumes and wines but its still present! This is not "academic or liberal bullshit". This is real peoples lives. 22 years ago, 10 of January 1994, a boy i was in love with as a young girl myself commited suicide because he was homosexual and he didnt want to dissapoint his mother. Understandable when lgtb communities heard that THE Cate Blanchett, possibly the most influential actress across planet right now as i can see in the south of Europe i live, was indeed going to play Carol they went wild and the tweet #herecomescarolaird# (or something like that) went also wild saying this is for Gia (died in the 80s i think;;) or for him or for her. Myself i remembered that boy, my suicidal love. And the pain of his mother. Well #here comes homophobic rasism again# and if we think we live in a bubble and it is not going to knock on our door one day we are way out of base! The last months there were mean homophobic tweets conserning Carol havent you noticed, a film about a gender minority in a white (among other things) Planet and Hollywood.. Well Gay men get the outrage, but Gay Women get the silence, having to be in the closet, and silence is a synonymous to not existence, to a semiotic death. In Gender Studies we say that the autobiography, especially that of women, constructs a different type of anthropological text transcending the male criteria, as it overlaps the big narratives of the Power, bringing in front the hidden language of the marginalised of all types. In that sense Carol is the first female movie ever as it does not reproduces machismo in any sense and well done mr Haynnes and the rest you wrote history! Pathetic though you even thought you could go away with the claim it was not lesbian it was all human. Yes IT WAS thats why there was no demonisation of the husband, but majorities and Power despite narcissistic terminology, in action exclude from the notion of Human what does not resemble to them. Unless if a minority person can be used and succeed as a public figure to make money "in the Machine" (to quote Mario Savio) in an unconsciouss effort to personalise the social sin. Guess what! You havent "trick" them! Fact of life! And i dont have to be a black to fight back for them i dont have to be gay to fight back for you, (Mr Haynnes or Mrs Naggy or the wonderfull producers) i dont have to be a worker to stand by them in solidarity. (In loving memory of Lazaros, + 10/1/1994)

I too wanted to know. From the film it seemed like Harge could have been spying but from the explanation given over here, had to be Terese.
