Sagar Bhopa from village Tamkore in Jhunjhunu district of the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, is probably, the only one person alive who is capable of reciting the full ‘Pabuji ka Phad’. Pabuji is a heroic historical figure from the Marwar region of Rajasthan. The epic goes back 900yrs. He knows all the micro details of the phad - its content, history and rituals. He is the only Bhopa who has the ability to connect the different parts of the epic to mythology and recite it philosophically. His knowledge about the phad and his ability to be able to explain it to a layman cannot be matched.
He is approx. 78 years old and still recites the phad all night along with his wife. He really wants to transfer this art to the new generation and likes to give the new generation all information about ‘Pabuji ka Phad’. Probably, he is the only artist in his community who is also a very good painter of the epic of Pabuji. He can paint the epic on cloth.
Sagarji is very much dedicated towards his artform and wants to transfer the knowledge to the younger generation as well.
