If a book is written on indian chess sagar's name should be the 2nd in list after vishy for the selfless service towards indian chess. Now he is popular just imagine the sacrifices and effort. He is a CA and could have taken over his fathers practice. There was no need to do this without even knowing whether anyone will notice. He could have minted millions in finance with the same effort. Sokolov got 100 euro for playing chess but 250 eur for flight cancellation which made him to look at chess coaching . The pain of chess has to be felt to even understand what this guy has done
@physco46417 күн бұрын
Completely agree.

Am a CFA charterholder and an investment banker, "minted millions", I dont think there is as much money in Auditing. If it was IB or something, I would agree to some extent. With the CBI venture, I am sure, he is making good money from his channel, least from other initiatives.
@sgrr749817 сағат бұрын
@@VikrantMalvankar his father has a practice. If he has put the same efforts in finance instead of chess he would be in the elite group . U have no idea about pain of chess or in any other sports. India was not a chess crazy nation , to dedicate himself and to inspire takes sacrifices.people can comment anything. Chessbase india is also not monetised to the extent you think. This is exactly the comment which was expected. People will not get what this guy has done.
@VikrantMalvankar5 сағат бұрын
@@sgrr7498 I don't think auditing has as much money, do not generalize Auditing as finance. I am a fide-rated player myself, so I know the history of chess in India. You might have started following him since Covid, I have known Sagar and Amruta long back since 2008 or even before, when they were very young and were players. India is still not a chess-crazy nation, since Anand's rise, India is not bad either. So do not overstate things, for example, in 2017, I met Sagar and Amruta at the Mayor's cup, and they were at it back then as well. Chess for most of the indians is still a hobby. They are not the reason chess is played more often in India, Anand is. Harikrishna was very much there in 1999 playing in National B championship as a 18-year-old in Andheri sports complex, so were many players. Chess was not introduced by Sagar. That said, the Kramnik camp he organized helped the youngsters immensely. Chessbase India is monetised by way of earnings from their channel, their ecommerce business thanks to chessbase GMBH and now sponsorships as well. e.g. Ambit, this helps them travel. Sagar is one of the reason why chess is followed by many online, Samay is another. Both of them have done great things.

To be very honest, a few months ago I started to lose interest in chess after actively playing for 5 years. But because of the Chess Olympiad and how Sagar and his team contributed to make it more exciting by his commentary, analysis, etc, I was able to remember why I began to play in the first place. I am definitely confident to say that in the upcoming years, Sagar’s name and impact would definitely be marked in the history of chess.

Sagar Shah is a very interesting person in and of himself. I highly recommend his talk he gave some years ago about why he put his GM ambitions on hold. It was a refreshingly honest and thought-provoking talk. Anyway, he and Amruta and the rest of the CBI team have already gone down in history for their extraordinary interviews and live coverage over the years. There is not really anything else like it in the on-line world, much less the chess world.
