A timely video because after months of procrastination I have just upgraded from a Delonghi Dedica to the Sage Dual Boiler. Plus I went for a Eureka Mignon Specialita as a bundle because of a great offer. I shall be following your progress with interest! Apart from the cost, my main concern with the SDB was reading about reliability issues but I hope by using filtered water (I live in a hard water area) and following all the cleaning recommendations it will serve me well. I am using a Brita jug as recommended by the supplier, and was relieved to see that the filtered water only registered one red square with the water hardness test strip, so the Brita appears to be working well. I have been really happy with the Dedica, bottomless portafilter and Sage Smart Grinder Pro, but when making more than one coffee it would struggle with speed, temperature consistency etc. The BDP is ready in around five minutes, and for the first time ever I produced four flat whites one after the other in no time. There is so much to learn after the Dedica. After a little tweaking of the grind dial (around setting 2) to achieve the 9 bar extraction, an 18g dose and the default double shot setting makes great coffee. This will be my starting point. I really look forward to hearing about your experiences and learning from them.

Thank you Tom. I would definitely go for this or the bambino plus. I'm happy with my current grinder but my little espresso machine is just not fast enough for a few cups in a row. The steam tap is worn out in any case so it might be a good time to upgrade. I'm currently using a Kambrook espresso machine. Supper cheap but the results after hack is amazing.

My endgame machine! The dual boiler design is quite interesting. The water path for the brew boiler is routed through the steam boiler, pre-heating it before entering the boiler. Has Breville upgraded the burrs in the Smart Grinder Pro? The models with upgraded burrs have the ESP’s 6-point inner burr vs the previous gen 5-point burr.
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
The model I reviewed still has the 5 blade burr. Maybe they updates other batches, I am not sure. Cheers!

The bdb has wheels that can be accessed under the drip tray. No need to wrestle with it. They really put a lot of thought in their machines.

Dual boiler looks fantastic. What machine would you go for? Gaggia Classic Evo Pro or Breville Dual Boiler? Here in Australia they cost the same. I feel like Gaggia is better constructed, but I also feel they can last forever if well maintained. Dont know. Whats your thought? I ended up buying GCP 2 hand for half price. It is nice! Im learning a lot from your videos, keep going! Thank you and happy new year, mate!
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
The GCP costs the same as the BDB? For me that's an absolute no brainer - go for the BDB! It sucks having to heat up from espresso to steam mode, and cool back down from steam mode to espresso mode on single boilers. Also, the GCP has a small 120ml aluminum boiler, and the ergonomics leave a lot to be desired imho (see cup clearance, and steam wand articulation). The GCP is iconic because it's the cheapest 'good' machine, but the BDB is way better in all aspects in my opinion (2 boilers, PID, pre-infusion, dry steam, cup clearance, steam wand, manometer, water sensor, illuminated water tank, you name it).
@brunoleitemilkie Жыл бұрын
I found the BES920BSS for $999 AUD but it is out of stock (maybe its was boxing day promo and they dont sell it anymore at this price, I dont know). and the Dynamic dual, in stock, its $1699 AUD at Bing Lee. GCP (Evo version) its about $1k AUD. The breville smart grinder is about $300-350 AUD. Yes, i have to agree with you. I ended up buying the Gaggia 2hand because it was $400 only. @@TomsCoffeeCorner

is there an option on this machine to not heat up the steam boiler if you aren't using it? Or do both boilers always heat up?

Hi Tom, just a quick question...mine is few months old and when i turn it on in the mornings it makes a gurgling noise while reaching the temp (kind of like an electric kettle)I guess it's normal but I think I remember reading it might be an oring issue (it's only 6 months old) does that one does it too? Only happens while heating up but I don't remember doing it at the very beginning. Thanks and happy new year!!!🎉🥂

I could be wrong (based on your water source) but you shouldn’t use Zero water filter pitcher along with Breville water filter. Use Breville filter when using tap water. If using Zero/Brita filter pitcher or distilled or RO water you need to add minerals back in or you will have bad tasting espresso/coffee. As well the low PH of straight RO water will cause corrosion internally
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Thanks, you're probably right about that. I use a Brita, which especially after a couple weeks, does not filter out the majority of minerals anymore. But it does help to reduce major scale in the machine. It's just force of habit for me to use filtered water, since it's crazy hard where I live. Cheers!
@alexandermashkin2395 Жыл бұрын
I wondered today that Instead of buying such monster, you can buy two dedicas or even stilosa + dedica )) it will cost mush less and grab the same area on your kitchen. And drink quality at least will not be worse. Just.. Just less show-offs :D
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Lol, I could probably fit 3 Dedicas in that space. But the BDB does do quite a better job, with espresso and milk steaming. I know it costs a lot more, but the texture of the milk foam is incredible, and the shots are tastier too. But you're right, the Dedica is awesome in its own right.

Coffee became a trending hobby in every level in the recent years. But bigger machine manufacturers tend to follow the tech companies' method in the 90's. Only give new upgrades or functions step by step/year by year slowly to get the sales and revenue. The smaller companies advance more faster. For example this machine could have a better digital screen not a simple quartz one with dimm light and low contrast. Even the cheapest pulse oximeters have oled screens. Maybe in the next version.
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Well, this design is already quite antiquated. I think it first came out over 10 years ago. Maybe they'll be updating it soon enough. Lance Hedrick hinted at something similar recently. Cheers!
