Part of a predictable psyche strategy of childhood trauma of neglect and worse is to defend against the deep fear and shame in the psyche, defense mechanisms, to think up things to be angry about that are not based in reality and direct them towards someone the person casts as what is called the scapegoat, not the true harmer(s) as that cannot be borne by them. It wouldn't matter what you did to try to help or etc, once you have been designated by them as the scapegoat only you can step out of that role, they can't release you from it because they have a psyche that is both stunted by trauma and adapts in these predictable ways, that's why the terms scapegoat goes as far back as the bible.
