October 2024: Just discovered this and enjoyed it immensely. As a complete and absolute beginner to classical guitar I have wanted a good comparison between playing with and without nails. There is another CG artist who plays with nails and who has also covered Sagreras Book 2 on KZbin. I loaded up this video in one tab of my browser and also loaded his video into another tab,. I then played #3 from your video and the same part from his video and did this for each part , to see how each sounded. The result was very interesting for me. Both of you are excellent players, and both videos seemed to be very well recorded. I truly enjoyed both and the beauty of the pieces came through in both, and both were very engaging. But there was definitely a difference in tone and sound. Your "no nails" playing reminded me of the difference in my hifi system after I made the switch to a tube amplifier. The music was the same, but the tubes added a warmth and intimacy to the sound that I personally found to be more enjoyable. This is a very subjective thing and in no way suggests that one is superior to the other. My addition of tubes to my hifi system was for me and me alone. I can and do enjoy listening to music on systems that do not have tubes, but for my own personal taste, I choose tube, In the same way, although this little experiment of mine is not perfect, I am choosing to start my classical guitar learning with no nails because that sound really does appeal to me. This was interesting, because i could see how it would be possible for someone else to do the exact same little test and reach the opposite conclusion. It really does come down to personal taste!

Yes, it does. I'm glad you came to that conclusion.

Hi Paula. Despite the sunshine, it was below freezing level outside. The sun looks much stronger on the video than it was in reality at the time. Which is a pity! I'm sure it is MUCH warmer where you are! Have a nice day. Rob.

Much warmer here! We had 45 degrees Celsius on Sunday! Not much to do but sit inside and watch you play guitar. No live classical music here so I feel lucky to have the internet and great KZbin content. Thank you!

I am currently studying the Segreras books, just finishing up book one. Also studying the Shearedr method, but the Segreras lessons are so much more beautiful sounding. I would be happy, as a hobbyist, just filling my repertoire with the Segreras pieces. Your interpretations are very nuanced and sensitive.

This gives me inspiration to work on some of the fingerstyle Ukulele exercises in one of your books. I have bought a new ukulele, Takamine tenor. Much better I think for fingerstyle than my narrownecked banjo ukulele.
@RobMacKillop15 жыл бұрын
Marianna, a tenor is much better than a Banjo uke for fingerstyle, as you are finding out. And a tenor is a good transition to a classical guitar. Enjoy the journey!

Hi Josh, My Cordoba C9 parlor guitar was delivered to me on June 23rd. I just love its workmanship and the tone. Also it’s much more comfortable to play. When you Google this guitar, you’ll find some review of it. The one by The Classical Guitar is very informative. Good luck in your search for a guitar you’ll enjoy playing. Best regards, Kelvin
