Tom....I swear I just had a flashback to about 30 years ago!!! There was a guy at our course who was about 165 years old that swung the club this way. He could only play the first three holes of the course, but would set at the first tee and join any two some or three some playing for a the first 3 holes. I played with him for years and NEVER saw anyone best him on those holes. He would always say "just swing the handle and the ball goes where it should go." I never...ever understood what he meant until watching this video. He plays in heaven now, but I am quite certain he is still playing three holes with everyone who shows up at the Heavenly Hills Golf Club, and he his still beating the pants off them!!!! Awesome lesson and even better memory for me. Thank you very much for the reminder!!!!! YOU ARE SIMPLY AMAZING.

Tom, I truly wish you had been able to give me your lessons 25 years ago… Since adopting your swing technique, including SNT, I have truly transformed my swing. Putting in the work, using the divot board has given me so much playing confidence. I used to struggle with my irons, especially approach shots. An example: yesterday I played, hitting GIR on 8 of the first 10 holes. While my putting let me down a bit, I sat at plus 4 through 10 holes. I have NEVER putted for birdie on 8 of the first 10 holes, in my life. Your teaching content and teaching manner has made me believe in myself. Instead of creating what might “go wrong” I am attacking greens. I expect to continue playing better. Many thanks, Tom!

This is a great tip and always assisted me in feeling "high" on the left side through the finish because I forgot about the clubhead and was only interested in the throw through the zone. You feel it more with the body as opposed to the clubhead position, which I think is the key lesson (for me at least). Tom does an excellent job in focusing on feels rather than positions, which for most of us is going to be more rewarding.

It’s not easy to admit that I feel more for the club head than the handle. But as I meditate on my swing I have to admit that I am feeling more for the club head when beginning the backswing. Which means that my feeling for the weight of the club head will be later in the backswing. Which forces me to need to muscle the club head down to the ball. Your sincerity, wins hearts and minds!

It can't be too late, Ron, since you are now improving and enjoying yourself!! 😎 By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you looked into the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Thousands of folks across the globe and spanning all age ranges and talent levels are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought. Thanks for sharing your success and keep up the great work!! Tom

this instruction is so different than what I have been ingrained to do, namely feel the "weight " of the club head on backswing and downswing.but this just makes more practical sense, the hammer analogy in particular. when I go fishing with spinning reel or baitcaster,i am looking at where I want the lure/bait to land(golf ball),the rod is thrown toward the spot, the line is released from the reel by feel(handle) to send the lure on its way. gonna try this asap on range and short game. thanks tom

As always Tom, a straight forward simple and fun explanation, this time for the downswing. When I followed this, I felt my body “pulling” the handle from mid way down and from behind me which feels like 4pm. It also keeps my right elbow tucked and releases at the right time with forward lean. This is an easy swing thought and it works with every club and the bonus is a baby draw. Just got to keep doing it till it sinks in permanently. My brain still sometimes wants to think of the clubhead - duh!! Thanks again Tom.

I remember seeing this video a few yrs ago... and adopted it but didnt stick with it with all the other "instructional videos" on YT... I've been working my butt off to get better, but I couldn't clear the 90s .... yesterday i played and had the inconsistent swings. However, towards the end, I said to myself "keep the handle ahead of the clubhead" and lo and I started hitting it consistently. I went to the range not really knowing that it was what changed my outcomes and was still doing other techniques....but wasnt having the success of consistency.... I really been struggling with my 3 wood or anything off the tee.... I started doing this and hit like 20 shots in a row with good contact and good ball flight. I hit other irons and chipped and pitched with the same concept/technique, and wow!! I was hitting everything crispy. The bad thing is, is that this is the true science and using the laws of physics instead alot of instructions are teaching techniques of trying to find the feel each time you go out. I immediately came back to find this video to comment on how absolutely critical this info and understanding is for consistent ball contact. Great job Tom. I cant wait to play this week and use this technique to see my results

I'm 52, played a lot of golf in my teens and 20s without instruction. Played less and less. Didn't play at all from 2009-2023. Gave away most of my clubs during first year of Covid. Didn't think I'd play again. Alas, like a Phoenix I went out this June and shot a 65 for 9 holes. Catastrophic! Bought myself some plastic golf balls and a mat to practice daily and started watching your videos as well as "Speechless Lesson" videos featuring Yoo Hyun-ju. While she is infinitely more attractive than yourself, your videos have resonated with me as I continue to claw my way back to respectability. In a few days I'll be playing a very difficult course in the Pacific Northwest. This particular video will create a mantra, along with your video about setting the hands forward prior to swinging. You reminded me before my first lesson I played baseball had a weak grip hand on handle like a hammer...He changed(screwed me up !)..got my grip into my fingers always came over the top after that. Now at 76 I can actually power thru the ball...that weaky airy swing is going and my umph is bag. Absolutely golden advice! The best golf video I've ever watched, undoubtedly the best you've ever made. The feel of the handle leading is awesome, it makes your whole body sequence naturally without thinking about it. I could never get the feeling of timing clearing my hips and body consciously and with this swing thought it happens naturally. I could also never swing well taking a full backswing, I would try and fail and resolve myself to make a half swing basically and hit the ball okay at best but never the pop and speed of a good player. This handle leading move and swing thought is a total game changer.

Dude, you rock. I will go back and watch your Corgono video about keeping weight on left side, keeping left should down. I am a flippin' mess but I am going back to Eddie Merrins. His WHOLE swing is based on swing the. handle. I am supremely curious about stack and tilt but honestly I'm trying to get CRAP out of my head. On the course yesterday I tried to do stack and tilt after watching videos from yourself and others but the only thing I could focus on was weight on left side. Keep left should angled downward and IF I tried to do the stack and tilt stuff I would mess up. Simply keeping my left should down and NOT moving that angle and placing the ball off my left heel allowed me to swing hard. Love your stuff man. Pray for me!!!

One thing that needs to be mentioned is - there are forces at play with gravity. That's why many of us struggle. I don't know the exact ratios but the jest of it is for every mph you swing, "x" amount of force is exerted by the club head going toward the ground. That's why your lesson is really good, in that it levels the forces a little bit. I do have to say though, I struggle with this with chunking . I'm not properly keeping the shaft at the right angle. It then grounds out, hitting before ball. I'm working on it!

I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you! This swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. Consider the following possibilities for your chunks: 1) Ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 4) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 5) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"). Consider this lesson as well as the Lag Shot training aid demonstrated in it (discount code provided in the video description): kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJyXoouCqLt-ps0 Though not an exhaustive list, those are the primary causes of fats, thins, and tops. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first two possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention. Have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Additionally, you'll have access to all my short game content (putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play), advanced level content, diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. I have been confused with how to incorporate my wrists and arms into the swing. This is the best explanation i have seen. How does the wrists and the arms work in the stack and tilt wing?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 5 ай бұрын
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you! The best way to learn and understand the proper wrist action is through the sequential lessons in the online school: saguto.golf As I may have shared previously, ideally we should simply "allow" the wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Tom

@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 4 ай бұрын
LOL! I’ll be certain to let Stacy my hair stylist know that she has another fan, George…. 😎 Yes - this swing key also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo. Hi Tom; a few things about this video. Not that it's wrong, just some other points. We've all been told that we "should be able to feel the weight of the clubhead" to promote an easier more fluid swing, while you're now telling us the opposite & to concentrate on the handle, which imo is a great method, not only for contact but lag as well. If you're leading with the handle & your weight is forward, it should also prevent flipping at impact, correct? I made an addition to this by using an object, light in weight, that will slide easily down the shaft. Actually I use a cardboard paper towel roll cut to about 5 inches which works well. This also helps promote lag during a waist high to waist high swing. If you're properly holding lag, the tube won't slide down the shaft & touch the clubhead at, or after impact until it reaches waist high on the target side of the swing which also promotes a swing through rather than a swing at the ball if your arms straighten too soon. Give it a try & see if it makes sense to you. Be well!
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Some folks have a difficult time sensing the weight of the clubhead, Mike, so yes - this should definitely help them as well as the many other golfs who do feel it yet are still inclined to get steep and extend prematurely due to that "hit" tendency. I appreciate you sharing your paper towel roll suggestion. Sounds like a simple homemade training aid to help folks reinforce this concept! TS

So weird I had this epiphany at the range about just his feeling. No matter what I did the clubhead would get out in front and I realized that subconsciously I was thinking in a linear manner and going after the ball with the clubhead. The combination of realizing the swing path is of course a circle and you lead with the hands was remarkable. Then it was ratified by this excellent video!

Wow. Never have I ever had immediate feedback. I am the guy who can hit a flush draw followed by a push slice without any knowledge of what adjustments I made. I was so concerned about the wrist feeling of Bowing and twisting and “turning the face down”. Zero club face awareness. The feeling of relaxing and “throwing the handle” was a game changer, face squared up on its own. -Hands first in takeaway -Shoulder down -Throw club handle threw the ball -Keep weight forward Golf is fun again

I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson, Peter! As long as you are able to maintain control of the handle throughout the swing, a "lighter" grip may help you feel the weight of the clubhead - as if it were a heavier object like a large hammer - and that can help you create the lag in much the same way as I was simulating in the "spaghetti arms" drill. Thanks for your comment, keep up the great work, and have fun out there! Tom

Swinging the handle towards the target is great advice for people that swing over the top, and slice the ball. However, this swing thought will cause better golfers to hit blocks, and hooks, or even the dreaded shank. I have to exit low, left with the handle, or I'll stall my hip rotation, and release the club too early. Just a caveat I thought was worth mentioning. Love your channel, bro.

@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Fred! My own personal "feels" are not relevant to you because they are unique to me. 😎 Beyond that, they do change quite regularly as I'm always thinking about new possibilities for my lesson content. (Although as long as my setup is good and I've pre-established the necessary connections, I can trust that no matter my "trigger du jour", it's going to get me moving properly into the takeaway and backswing.) This is why I do my best to convey multiple feels or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason why the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why thousands of folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result (and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews ). Tommy, your handle/grip lesson rules. + it certainly allows the club to be submissive as the manufacturer designed it. You are a dude!👍⛳️💥

This is not regarding this lesson but is the lower body shift a violent move. Can you do a video on that. You do a great job and I'm hitting the ball better than ever. Most of my shots are very consistent. Keep up the great work. Thank you.

I have been trying this in the yard for about 2 weeks before ever seeing this video. Seems like it works great on 1/2 and 3/4 shots but struggle with about 50% of full shots. Can't wait to try on the course after some of this summer heat is gone. By the way, I like your dead Christmas tree in the background.

Work on it incrementally, Conrad, slowly and gradually building up towards the full swing. And the tree is not dead; it is merely in pre-Christmas hibernation.... 😂 Cheers! Tom

Yes Tom. I agree with you. Except I focus on my hand path. Which is the same thing. But never the club head. My ball striking has improved dramatically as a result. Good video. If your audience gets a hold of this it’s a guaranteed game changer…

Thanks. I try to do this by swinging down clockwise with the grip end, not counterclockwise. You might want to talk about that movement sometime.

Tom all my life I followed Ben Hogan’s advice to use my inside muscles of my arms and legs. But as you can readily agree, if I tighten my inside muscles of my left leg on the beginning of the backswing I will inhibit the rotation of my right hip. Troubling the right hip rotation creates an unstable position at the top of the backswing.

What about grip... is that transferable? Very very strong grip with the hammer. Can you use that on the club?
